Premeum leather problems

Just giving the rrs a good clean when I noticed the leather on the drivers seat has worn through the ivory finish on the seam. Bit of a shock as I have only done 4000 miles in it so far. Anyone else had problems like this? Evil or Very Mad

Same happened on my RRS SE alpacca driver seat, the skin was duly replaced under warrantly and looks as good as new.

I personally think the seam is in a daft place since it gets loads of 'pivotal' wear upon entry/exit to the car.

As a result I've now got sand front seat covers to protect the seats, the rear seats are covered with aspen covers to cope with heavy kiddy traffic.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Does the new seat wear any better? do you think its a manufacture fault or poor design? I considered seat cover when I first got the car but decided not to bother, at near 50k they should stand up to being sat on for a few more than 4000 miles!!!
How were the dealerswith you about this problem, did they try to blame you?

The dealer will probably tell you that you are wearing the wrong type of trousers.
You should obviously only be wearing LR approved clothing, anything else will invalidate your warranty Wink

We'd done about 3500 miles when we began to notice the wear and tear on the front driver seat base that suffered the problem.

We've only had the new swab on for 1000 miles so far and no wear noticed , to be honest I would not be surprised if it happened again (in view of a major proud seam on such a key wear and tear point) - I notice that the new leather (both on the original delivered car and the new swab) have a degree of texture about them that needs use to smooth the surface to a slippery leather.

I wondered whether it was the SE leather initially but I was told that apart from the 'rucking' design the leather used is identical to the HSE.

The front passenger seat has taken traffic a lot better and is now smoother than when we first had the car. It thus offers less resistance to wear and tear traffic. Though has generally had the traffic of a female silkened rear !

The dealer had no issue at all though needed to get LR approval to make the change, I recall him taking a digital photo to email to LR. Everything was approved without issue. Fitted at the dealership.

Hope all goes well with you, PM me if you need my contact deets. P400e HSE Portofino Blue and Ivory Seats.. it's like a yacht!!
