Replaced FOB case now won't start!!

I replaced the key fob case on my Range Rover sport 2006 today and now it won't start! Car unlocks and locks as expected and can turn ignition on, just won't start. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have no spare key

I can't say definitely for the rrs but most fobs have a black transponder chip in the corner of the case key blade end that blends in well with the plastic so easily missed or could have dropped out when changing the gubbins over, that chip is for the immobiser so would cause your exact symptoms, the other type the chip is built into the circuit board so unless it was dropped in the process I can't see why you would be having this problem. Clickadeeclick

Yeah, I guessed the same but took the old shell to the car too, no joy. From what I've read these fobs only have a single board with the transponder on it. The only thing I can assume is the transponder on the board has somehow been damaged in the process Sad

Correct. You will need a new key, or the existing one repaired...

Thanks guys, will order a new key from the stealership tomorrow. Do you know if indies should be able to program the key rather than me having to get the car on a flat bed to the stealership?

Cheers

Hello oli
Worth shopping around, dealers will generally charge £120 for the key then £60 programming.
I found some independents will order the key from land-rover and programme for free. MY12 RRS HSE

Last key I ordered was a few years ago now, and was over £130 + VAT, even at trade price...

There are cheaper keys available on that auction site for £30-40 or so. Your existing blade can be swapped over, then it will just need programming Thumbs Up

Might be worth trying a few mobile lock smiths. See if one can program a new key on the drive for you, save the trailering.
