There is currently a great finance contribution from Land Rover Finance. £1500 off an HSE, £2000 off a Dynamic and a whopping £3000 off an Autobiography. You won't get these paying cash!

I got a lot more discount than that paying cash for an Autobiography.

Surely they are referring to additional discount/contribution coming from LR finance as opposed to and on top of whatever they may have already negotiated with the Dealer?..

Yes, I realise that now. Embarassed

It's such a good deal it's making me wonder whether I should look into it for my 1 March delivery.

I have a friend who bought a new evoke he asked the dealer the same question and the sales guy told them that by getting a finance deal they could offer them better discounts, higher trade in prices (if applicable) and often some minor things like matts etc. Then when you get home wait a few days and pay it off in full so you don't get any penalties. So you still get the savings and very minimal or if any interest charges.

Thats a great idea but surely LR dont allow that to happen. There must be a clause in the finance agreement that you have to pay a penalty if you clear the payment early ?

Thanks for all your advice guys but fyi my nephew works at the dealership the car price (with the delaer fit options) came to 84k and i was given a discount of £4700 but i told them i was paying cash. The car has been ordered and should arrive end of this month. Do you think its still possible to ask for a further discount if i say i want to use finance ?

Let me speculate - not knowing anything about how LR finance works - but I would be very surprised if the dealer's sales team weren't targeted on finance sales as well as car sales. In other words they'll get a bit extra commission if the car sells on finance rather than cash as finance is profitable for the company as they in turn get paid by the finance house. No doubt others will correct this assumption if I'm wrong.

So what have you got to loose? If I'm right they'll bite your arm off for a deal on finance. Whether you can then cancel a few days after picking up the car will be down to you to check with the small print but it appears to be possible from reading this thread. Robin

I'm sure you're absolutely right, but it makes me wonder why no-one even suggested finance to me. By comparison, I've had e-mails about taking their GAP insurance (more commission obviously) so you'd have thought that finance would have at least been offered to me at some stage. The only reason I've never considered it myself was that I'd assumed that it was just like the 'never never', and that you'd be bound to end up paying a lot more, but reading this thread would suggest otherwise. (I'd never even heard of PCPs , 'balloon' payments, etc.)

I'd pay cash, if I had it. who knows what the economy is going to do in 12 months time...

Firstly the salesman get additional commission if they get you to finance the car. secondly, you can get APR rates at half of those JLR are offering via high-street banks. SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

My advice (and what I did this time and various times with other cars) is to take the finance
get the deposit contribution
Get the car
withdraw from the finance within 14 days paying nothing except the few days interest. (About £15 in my case I think)
Pay off the amount financed (car cost minus deposit minus deposit contribution)

This way you get the best of both...

Have a search around on the internet, the right to withdraw only works if you are financing less than about 60k though, so beware on a car like this!

Of course this law in our favour might go when we leave the EU but that's a different discussion.

Yes, but - as above - if you can and do pay it of within a few days without penalty then you get the best of both worlds Robin

True, but if you get an extra £3,000 off an Autobiography it alters the calculation completely, especially if you can pay it off straight away as claimed in this thread.

Don't buy GAP from dealer. Use ALA who are a specialist gap broker and much, much cheaper. Dealers make ££ on those add on products Censored Visitor from fullfatrr.com

If you cancel/ pay off the loan within the cooling off period does the salesman still earn his commission? You could be on a win, win, win situation if he doesn't Laughing 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

LOL - quite possibly

last time I financed a car (AMG) they begged me not to pay it all off in the first year ... presumably because is did effect their commission Smile SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

Thanks, but I wouldn't dream of buying off the dealer (3 x as expensive!!). I was just using this as an illustration that they are willing to offer me lucrative (to them) options, but didn't offer me finance.

If finance is cancelled/repaid within 6 months dealership gets it in the neck from the finance company.
