Another EGR valve!

Back in June had problems with restricted performance and generally not running very well at all,, accompanied by clouds of whitish smoke, had it trailered to the local indie who fitted an egr valve.
Last week, after a short burst of speed same symptoms again, back to indie,,, the other egr valve this time,,, I thought egr valves where not such a common problem on the V8?

Must admit though, it was a delight to get rid of the courtesy car and back in a comfy drive again! 2010 RRS, TDV8

They are not hugely common, but as its a fairly involved job to replace 1 valve, it's always advisable to do them in pairs on the 3.6 (as you have found out) Thumbs Up

Yep,,, I think your right, I should have used the logic that if one has failed the other can't be much better, 2010 RRS, TDV8

I may be misinformed but I run my diesel cars on premium diesel only - I believe it minimises unwanted gunk build up. (Since I've done this my germanmobile no longer shows DPF warnings etc.)

I also change oil every 5k miles/annually whichever comes first.

A friend of mine had his Skoda serviced along with some issue with it's EGR valve. His mechanic informed him that due to the amount and type of fouling in the valve that the car was being run on Morrisons diesel. Uncanny, as my friend and his wife only use Morrisons diesel.
He now runs a 'proper fuel company' regular diesel with one premium tank every two months.
It will be interesting to hear the report from the next service!

I may not always use premium fuel but I always use Millers diesel ecomax every time I fill up,,, this is supposed to help keep your fuel system clean so to speak. Given that the car is coming up to 92k miles and I'm quite sure this is the first time the egr valves have been changed I can't really complain. I think it's always going to be one of those parts that cause issues,,, even more so on the 2.7 version.

As HTC says,, I change myoil regardless every 12 months, which for me is nearer the 3000 mile mark 2010 RRS, TDV8

My TDV8 has been run on premium diesel for the last 5 years (c.80+k miles) and now, at 140k miles on the clock is still on its original EGRs (as far as I know).

I hope I'm not going to regret posting that... Big Cry 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
