Emissions Scandal = Land Rover named as one of the companies

Both Jaguar and Land Rover have been named by the German Transport Ministry as two of 11 makers with vehicles that have "irregularities" with diesel car emissions figures................

So Land Rover please let us know soonest which models/ engines and what are you doing about it?

Good old Land Rover. Mr. Green

I said it years ago - you can't just wave a stick and magic the emissions lower and lower. The sooner these nuts wake up and realise this the better. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

This comment was made by an LR employee here a few months ago when VW came under spotlight: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/post474141.html#474141

Perhaps the headline We don't use software to cheat diesel emissions tests is truthful. As in may be there are other ways Laughing Even then it was a bit hard to swallow that only one or two manufacturers were cheating. Anyways nothing proven yet so LR may well be clean. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I don't see what all the fuss is about

Of course real world testing will have higher figures than lab testing Rolling Eyes
The lab testing removes all variables from the equation

If one was cheating it's not unexpected that they all could.

Who was the first though???

Did it start when they changed the VED

Those conditions should be recreated in the lab. Otherwise any testing is a pointless rubber-stamping exercise. Pretty sure as a result of these findings best efforts will be made to simulate real world going forward. Perhaps not enough was done in that regard previously. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I'm sure that all manufacturers have been "at it" but, from experience of working in Germany, once you catch the locals (particularly in the south) telling lies or cheating they have to invent all ways possible to deflect the attention Rolling Eyes

That's what they have done. A set route, computer controlled acceleration, braking etc

A lab can't simulate road conditions, traffic, air resistance and so on

All cars are subject to the same test, and emissions are calculated on that test

I'm no expert but if they were serious they could use something along the lines of a wind tunnel to simulate air resistance, different types of rollers (similar to the ones used in an MoT brake test) to simulate different types of road surfaces and the computer controlled acceleration/deceleration/speed variation you mentioned to simulate traffic conditions.

I am not suggesting they don't already do the above (I have no idea). My argument is only about your point that real world will always be different to lab. In my opinion, while I agree lab cannot be 100% representative, it doesn't have to be too far from reality. It can be very close, so close that the tiny difference becomes irrelevant. I don't think that's the situation presently, hence all the fuss. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Even the so called Zero Emissions cars still have to emit pollutants to make the electricity, even when it is wind or solar generated electricity there is pollution in making the panels and turbines and let's not venture to think about what goes into the manufacture of the batteries .................... It is just that they produce less in comparison to hydrocarbon fueled vehicles. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hybrids get to start the emissions test with a full battery too. This skews the figures massively. I doubt many hybrids start each journey with their batteries fully charged every time. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'm still thinking of having my EGRs blanked and mapped. Which won't help the planet...ah well, 22mpg is hardly helping anyway! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Don't be so sure - blanking means less CO2 and less particulate matter, the latter being responsible for far more pollution related illnesses than NOx. It's not so clear cut as to the environmental benefits. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Knocking out the emissions controls might also make the car go a tiny bit further on a litre of diesel........... Certainly improved the fuel consumption on my TDi300 defender when the EGR was blanked and the then optional cat was removed. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
