Front PDC - can't seem to get it to work

Hi all,

So we have a MY06 4.2 with front and rear PDC, the rears work as expected into R the light comes on they beep and all is well. Into N, D or P and the light on the dash goes out. I read that in order to get the front PDC to work you have the car in D or N, push the button on the dash it, it should light up and the front sensors are activated. This doesn't happen. No light, no error codes, no faults thrown up on the dash.

Checked the fuses, all look to be in working order. I am completely lost as to what it is, short of taking the bumper off and having a look.

Anyone else any ideas? To be honest I'm not bothered if they work or not I'm pretty confident with the size and length of the car......it the other half who wants them working, he still drives it like a bus!

If one of the units individual sensors at the front is faulty, then it knocks out the whole system, front and back, as they are on a single circuit. So what someone may have done, previous owner perhaps, is have the front system disabled by Land Rover or a garage, so the rears still work. 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.2 s/c with Arden bodykit

That's what I suspect that the front has been disabled. My other half can't quite get that when I said it could be the cause hence no faults showing up.

I know the garage that had been servicing it so I'll give the guy a buzz to see if he can advise if he was asked to disable it.

Just a thought and if I remember right if you pop out the O/S headlight you can access the Front Bumper wiring harness Multi Plugs, might be worth checking that the connector is pushed fully home as it may have had the bumper of at some time. Only takes seconds to remove headlamp.

Cheers

Thanks Col. Hopefully if the weathers half decent tomorrow I'll get the headlight out and have a look Thumbs Up

Under normal circumstances you do not need to push the button to activate the front sensors, they are always on. You could push this button to deactivate the front sensor beeping if they are annoying.

"On vehicles with front and rear systems, the front system is activated when the ignition switch is in position II, the vehicle is out of Park and the Electric Park Brake (EPB) is off. If the vehicle speed subsequently goes above approximately 10 mph (16 km/h), the front system will switch off. When the speed drops below approximately 6 mph (16 km/h), the front system activates again. If the EPB is applied or Park is selected, the Parking Aid system is deactivated."

So most probably you are inadvertently switching off your front PDC all this while Smile Malaysia Boleh!

Unfortunately not, I'm not switching it off because they don't come on to begin with. I am parked 2 inches from a wall at the front and everytime nothing. Trying to push the button when creeping up, nothing. Clearly they just don't work. I've pushed the button twice but I've parked the car in that space about 20 times since it was collected and driven home last month.

If you're parked that close to the wall and then start your car the PDC will not come on immediately. Try reversing a couple of feet and then move forward towards the wall without pushing the button. The PDC must pick up the signal and beep. If it does not then something is wrong. Malaysia Boleh!

Thanks again for that suggestion but I've tried that too. Hence why I know they are most definitely not working. It's not just stopped. It's been like it since I got the car. I don't just turn the car over and have gone these aren't working. The car actually moves out the space either to do some of the modifications the other half has been doing or when we are going out to the countryside.

I live in the city centre, the car park for where I live has a 10ft stone wall at the bottom, I park the car into a space so the stone wall is on my offside and there is a 3 ft wall in front. Possibly thinking irrelevant but it's not because I can't go gunning it down and into a space which is 90 degrees to a wall and usually another car to the n/s of the car so when I'm driving down and parking I'm doing under 10mph.

I've used the IID took a few times now and no codes so I'll be checking the connections hopefully today.
