Wheel bearings. Buy cheap, pay twice.

Back in May I had a dodgy drivers side front wheel bearing, so decided to change both fronts at the same time, I bought a pair from a LR spare parts dealer on Ebay with 100% positive feedback, I also bought a new set of drilled and vented discs with pads, the wheelbearings cost about £70 each, so not cheap, as some on Ebay are £70 a pair.
Over this last month I have been feeling a grumbling sensation through the steering on right hand bends, less so on left hand bends, at first I thought it was the power steering rack, or maybe the pump.
On Christmas eve I went shopping ( as you do, for the mrs ) and the noise started to get worse, so I drove the 10 miles to my Indie friend, who after taking it out for a test drive told me it was the passenger side Wheel bearing. I was a bit stumped by this as I had over covered 3000 miles since fitting the new ones.
He told me he only fitted Timken ones, and gave me one to take away as he was shutting up for Christmas.
So I spent Christmas eve on the drive, in the pouring rain fitting the new one.
The old one had no play in it, however the bearings sounds as rough as a bag of spanners, maybe a couple have broken up?
All is now well, however I will need a new one for my drivers side, but I'm hoping that will last until we get better weather, as it isnt making any noise at the moment.
The Timken ones are about £120
So if you are changing your wheel bearings anytime soon, get the Timken ones, as they are the orginal ones LR fit at the factory 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
