RRS MY16 - What is the deal with security?

I am about to take delivery of a RRS autobiography tomorrow, and it s a MY16 car. After the scares of the theft through last year, I am trying to get a handle on exactly what has or should have been updated on a MY16 car, and what it has cured.

Dealer is a quite vague, so I thought I would ask if anyone knows specifically.

The deal is, is that any tech savvy car thief can have your car away in around 30 seconds......

Someone correct me if I am wrong?

Jim

I think the update is to limit access to KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) so not everyone can clone a key. I also read somewhere that they have changed it so you can have a maximum of 2 active keys. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
Gone: MY16 RRS2 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic, Carpathian Grey & Santorini Black Sliding Pano/Ebony & Ivory 2 Tone
Gone: MY13 RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition, Orkney Grey/Ivory
Gone: MY09 RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE, Santorini Black/Almond

Just be careful and always double lock using the door button, not the fob.

The KVM is now 'read only' and new keys cannot be paired to it. Even via the dealer.

The method for replacing lost keys is now to replace the KVM too. As an aside, LR pay for the KVM in this event and the customer pays for the key as now.

However, it means that thieves are sadly now more likely to break into your home to steal the keys as they cannot pair new ones.

And for every fix and security prevention, they will find the next least secure route, and JLR will be playing catch up once more.

It's not unique to these vehicles, just they have been the more recent flavour of the month and the "fixes" weren't especially quick.

As a MY 16 there should be nothing outstanding, as the fixes / changes were in the build,

Phil,
Is there a difference of double locking using the key fob or via door handle touch?

RE Update of older cars

Yes, it is offered FOC by your dealer. Mine was replaced last service. They did offer an extra key (to make it 3) at a price, because of the difficulty of getting new ones.
