Fronts. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

Had tread depth of 4.5mm (R) and 3.5mm (F) reported @ 2nd service (24,000ml) in March. Now down to 2.5mm (F) and 3.5mm (R) @ 29,500mls. New set are in the garage ( care of Tyredealers) ready for changing fronts in near future and probably rears by Xmas.

Shame she's going on 1st March - but not prepared to risk Somerset winter weather on low tread depth.

All in all I've been very pleased with the Pirelli's compared to the Conti's on my previous TDV8.

Conti's are a soft compound & don't last long,,I run Pirelli's on my RRS as they do last longer.

Thanks all, suspected as much but due to edge wear & changes, haven't been keeping an eye on front/rear wear. Fronts are needing changing now. Got a good pair of tyres to go on, just wanted to work out which end was better to put them on and maybe swap rear to front first. I'll just put them on the front now.

Always put the best tyres on the rear. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Maybe but then if I do it this way, I'll have better front end grip for longer and then I can change all 4 tyres when they've worn out together.

The reasoning behind putting the best tyres on the back is down to oversteer vs understeer (the latter being safer). Again, it's better to have a blow out at the front rather than rear and I believe research may suggest better water clearing too. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I remember reading that story on the M5 Board forum, V10 M5 Touring and the guy was with his wife and young children when this happened in Germany, everyone assumed he had been driving like a loon and that wasn't the case. 80 MPH caused that! Luckily all involved had a lucky escape with no injuries Shocked 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
