5.0L S/C Engine Sounds like a bag of spanners and air leak?

Hi Guys,

I'm no mechanic so this might all be normal, but bear with me here.

I have recently noticed a drop in performance of the car, last night when I got back to the station I decided to pop the bonnet and admire the engine, sad aren't I lol Laughing

Anyway, I have taken a video of the noise that the engine was making at tick over, it sounds like a diesel Shocked

Also, in the video (which you can't hear) there is a jet of air being pushed out from the engine, if looking at the engine it appears to be coming from close to the airbox join on the engine its self, right at the end you can hear the noise in the microphone, its quite a strong jet of air.

Any ideas what could be causing this (supercharger?) and is the engine noise normal?

Thank you

A 5.0L should be almost inaudible at tick-over.

Well it appears to be making different noises on different sides of the engine, it was definately just at tickover as there was no one in the car lol. 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

LR Assist came out, said its definately running rough, thought it might have been water on the belts, however as its stored covered overnight they don't think its that.

Booked into the dealers, today, I'm just awaiting a call now on what car they are going to give me lol 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

I agree it doesn't sound very happy. Let us know what they conclude. Mark

Hi Mark,

Will do - interestingly I have a 3L SDV6 and that is as fast in some speed ranges as my S/C....shows how far the performance had dropped!

They've not had chance to look at mine yet, however thats not the end of the world as I am going on Holiday tonight for a week Smile 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

Sadly not,

The car spent a week at the dealership and they couldn't replicate. However, when I got the car back it certainly felt better.

However, driving the 200 miles to Birmingham yesterday it misfired again, or maybe even backfired.....

On a slip road, some plonker trying to block my entry onto the M1. I'm doing about 60 and so slow down to about 40 filter behind him, he slows down as well, so I sped up to 50 to filter in front. He speeds up, I'm running out of slip so wide open throttle to about 75ish (I know but it was safer in my opinion to speed than to brake heavily.

I get toward the red line (car was in sport dynamic) and the car bangs and stops accelerating

Seemed to be ok afterwards but no warning lights etc.

Rather concerning but driving to Nottingham today and then back to the south coast.

I'm guessing they'll just say they can't replicate it again....

Any ideas? 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

I'll post some more videos later.

Am now getting a more pronounced metallic noise, like there is a bird or a cicada in the engine bay lol.

The hotel wifi can't cope with videos being uploaded lol 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

Just went into stratstones (Nottingham) v.impressed.

Explained situation, tech came out. No fault codes but said he HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE but at another dealership.

Dodgy crankshaft sensor which doesn't throw a fault code.

Will get it booked back in to Harwoods when I'm back down south. 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography
