MY16 Infotainment review

Seeing some people have said they have received their MY16 RRS already, it would be good to get a review of the new Infotainment system please.

What are the actual changes and pictures would be useful. Thanks

There's been some sort of update in the MY16 models. Don't know what, otherwise wouldn't be asking the question

Other than the home screen layout, and the front seat climate controls, are there any material changes to the infotainment system?

It's exactly the same as 15MY except a different home screen layout and different graphics/icons. This is not InControl Touch.

I`ve just purchased a used MY15 HSE and I`m so pleased it`s not the same as the disco sport. I had one of those on release, and thought the sat nav system was poor. The only thing I thinks better is the camera on the disco sport seema better resolution

The MY16 cameras are better now but the infotainment is still the old one with some different graphics. MY16 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography in Aleutian silver, stealth pack and toys.

Main change seems to be icons down the sides rather than words, probably to support foreign language markets though I would have thought things like Setup, Mode, Tel and Navi are pretty much universally recognised.

The idea that two meshed gear wheels represents "Setup" is hardly obvious...

The navigation screen in this example looks identical. The changes look to be cosmetic and if there is a much more capable infotainment/navigation system waiting in the wings, it will probably have to wait for a broader product revision because of hardware changes. You can only make so many silk purses out of this particular sow's ear.

I've been running my TomTom alongside the built-in SatNav, more because of the speed camera warnings but also to check the speedometer accuracy with 22 inch wheels.

What's striking is how accurate the TomTom ETA is compared to the LR navigation system. 2 hour journey, the TomTom initial estimate is accurate to within 2-3 minutes from the start, the LR is hopelessly optimistic from the start and the ETA gets later and later. The key I think is that TomTom knows much more about prevailing traffic conditions and also makes better assumptions about real-world progress through traffic light infested urban areas. Wolverhampton anyone? Mark

Yes, the system is the same. Only front screen and surround cameras and their view has changed.

How are you finding the different wheels? The 22 tyres have slightly larger circumference so will be interested to know if the speedometer calibration is set at build and should be changed when the wheels are swapped, or whether the speedometer is set to overread on the 22s.

49 mph on the 21 = 50 mph on the 22.

I read yesterday that the true new "InControl Touch" system will be launched with the new XF in December. So it looks like maybe MY 17 for the RRS?

What we have for MY 16 is merely some tinkering. And that isn't so bad, the system works fine for me. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

The 22 inch rims are larger but the side profile of the tyre is reduced to partly offset that increase. I've found there is still a useful "safety" margin between the true speed (as indicated by the GPS, though hardly an absolute calibrated standard) and that shown by the speedometer, a couple of mph at 50mph and perhaps a bit less than with the 21s. It appears to be non-linear too...

You quickly get used to what the car is currently wearing. Compared to the 21s, the 22 ride is less forgiving but with the added benefit of improved handling and sharper turn-in. I still plan to swap back to the 21s for the winter. Mark
