Remote Heat and cool

Hi Guys,

Im tempted to add this to my build but im curious to how it works.

If I assume you get the extra keyfob that is on the landrover site you have to be in close range unless you program it.

My question is to heat the car does the car start then tick over until warm making it drivable to a thief ? or does it use some electric heater.

If it uses a electric heater how would it then cool the car as the car has to be running to use the air con so does it then just blow air around like a fan and not actually cool the car at all ?

I don't want to waste my money on a feature that is just as unsafe as leaving the car running or just as effective at cooling as lowering the windows.

Im sure its better than that but looking for someone who has it to explain.

I have it on my RRS1. There is an aux heater that runs on fuel. It fires up for remote/programmed heating and the fan, that runs on car battery, blows hot air. For hot weather, you are right, it doesn't cool the car but just turns the fan on, again powered by battery (no operation of aux heater obviously). Car is not started or unlocked for heating or cooling.

The aux heater automatically comes on when the car is started and outside temperature is below 5 degrees. It helps the engine to warm up quicker. This is standard on all diesel RRS1 even without remote/timed climate option.

My understanding is you don't get the aux heater in RRS2 unless you spec remote park heating. I have added it to my RRS2 order, not just to have remote/timed climate but also because in cold weather the diesel engine takes a long time to warm up without the aux heater. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I used my remote heating throughout last winter and it was a real luxury to be able to fire it up before breakfast and step into a toasty car with clear windows 20 mins later. The remote cooling is less useful because of course it is only the fan that operates. However overall and IMHO, remote heating/cooling is well worth having and having experienced it now myself, it will be one of the first option boxes I will tick next time

Btw the heated steering wheel is another option well worth having too. Another bit of luxury that you will soon think you could never do without!

+1 on the auxiliary fuel burning heater. It's excellent in winter and impossible to retrofit after the vehicle is built.

Just resign yourself that you are buying it for your own benefit and you will not get anything for it a trade-in time. Regards

Malcolm

There are some complaints here about cars taking a very long time to warm up in cold weather. These are from people who do not have the aux heater. Not their fault because it is marketed as "remote and timed climate" only which some people have very little use of and don't spec. Many don't realise they will not get the FBH either.

Agreed that we are probably not going to get a penny of that £1k back at resale but I don't think it's expensive, especially considering people are happy to spend more than that on totally cosmetic stuff like stealth pack. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Does anyone know what the difference is, or if its a big difference between the Remote Park Heat with Timed Climate and the InControl app Climate start?

In control app will only make use of features on the vehicle, so if you don't have remote park heat, no heating, mad our market won't allow for the engine to be remote started.

Hi. The app will start the climate control the same way as the supplied remote does if you have the FBH fitted to your car. The advantage of the app is that you are not limited to the 100 meters or so range of the supplied remote fob!

I ran out of time to add this to my car but wish I had. If I was able to remotely start the car though like I'm sure was the plan at first then I wouldn't have needed it.

I have a coat though heated steering wheel and seats so I should survive the warmup.

Using the InControl app though does need a good quality 3g/4g data link to the car and if the car is parked close to a garage / building and shadowed from the phone network then it won't work. On my drive, if the car is parked nose into the drive then I can communicate with it from Australia and New Zealand over the internet to Scotland, nose out and the antenna is shadowed by the house next door and no matter how hard I try I cannot access the car from the app. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Can anyone 100% confirm that the app will start the FBH as I thought this was dropped for 16MY?

I believe it isn't (as isn't Remote Start) on the Sport for MY16. Very happy to be corrected.

Me too - I hope to be corrected as this would be super useful for me! I have the FBH coming but obviously just with the timer and remote option as far as I understand.

If someone has it, please tell us - yay!

EDIT: The handbook does mention that it can use the FBH. However it also talks about remote engine start which we knew was dropped. So I'm clueless haha!
