SDV8 vs SDV6

Is the SDV8 worth the premium over the SDV6?

Here in Aus, nearly new SDV8's are going for around $15-25k more

Also worth noting the SDV6 in aus only has 600nm as opposed to 700

Anyone had experience of both and able to comment taking into account the above ?

Thanks

I checked both about 5000 miles.
SDV8, better sound more power is noticeable. Less fun at cornering as the engine sits high and is 120 kg more heavy than SDV6. Had 12,8 liters/100 km

SDV6, also a good sound for a V6, better balanced car at all without the heavy engine, but at all less appealing than the SDV8.
10,5 liters / 100km

I went for the SDV6 Hybrid, same power as the SDV8 and the more weight sits below the car. 9 liters / 100km.

Honestly, if a Diesel I would go for V6 or Hybrid, but if V8, then supercchared.

MY16 V6 diesels are 305bhp and 700Nm torque, I can't see that the V8 can make much difference, especially taking the weight penalty into account. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

I test drove both and the sdv8 sounds beefier but I couldn't justify the extra £££ for hardly any difference in power and the higher fuel costs. MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys

I have been driving the SDV8 for a year and 20000 km and I would definately recommend you to go for it.
It is perhaps not rational when comparing data sheets and mpg figures...but it is a greater driving experience for sure.
of all the extras I picked I am most happy with the bigger engine.
Good luck whatever you choose Smile

Thanks for all the replies.

SDV6 new ($135,690)
V6 HEV Hybrid new ($158,670) around $23k more
SDV8 New ($149,970) around $14k more
Petrol V8 New ($195,120) around $60k more as it has to be specced as an AB dynamic

All above with exception of V8 SC are in HSE Trim and all prices above are base with no options in NSW Australia

Therefore for me and my budget it's between the SDV6/8 if I can justify the extra cost for the V8 oil burner

I'll also need to confirm when Australian delivered SDV6's started to come with 700nm (as opposed
To 600) as this will influence my Decision somewhat if I go for a slightly used example.

If the SDV6 has 700nm and weighs 200kg less than the SDV8 I guess it looks like the most sensible option?

right, the SDV6 is the best offer in the line, if you dont need the sound of a V8.

keep us informed ho you decide at the end, an how you like the test drive...

Personally, I would go SDV6, just turn the stereo up a notch, and use the fuel savings to pay towards an extended warranty. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

In RRS1 the TDv8 was a significant advance over the TDv6, even in the 2010MY cars up to the end of production of TDv8. With RRS2 I have not noticed any significant loss of entertainment from having the SDv6 over an SDV8 and would much rather have the lower emissions and fuel consumption of the V6 and forgo a boomier exhaust (which can be added aftermarket for an awful lot less than the cost of a V8 engine!) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

After reading all the feedback I'm leaning towards the V6 too now, but sometimes test drives make people do silly things band all numbers go out the window (as per Stix) Smile

Just waiting for my house renos to be completed before I can pull th trigger. It's certainly dragging

Thanks for all the input and feedback

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Fuji White

I have just taken delivery of a RRS HSE SDV6. Awesome vehicle. The New spec SDV6 that is 225Kw, 700Nm engine was fitted to all MY15.5 models built from January 2015.
The price you quote appears to be high therefore I assume it includes all on road costs and government charges as RRP was $123,400 Including GST and LCT.

Hey Pete hope you're enjoying the new ride

Prices were straight off the Aus Lr website and yes were drive away, inclusive of govt taxes and stamp duty, but with zero options. Not sure if dealers stick to these prices or if there's
Room to manoeuvre.

If you don't mind, Can I ask if the dealers were willing to negotiate on price with yours?

yes enjoying the new RRS. Still learning all its features and options that I added. The price list I have is dated January 2015.
I visited 3 dealers. Went with the one I got the best vibe from. I was only interested in the bottom line that is drive away price. Got a quote including options, said I want a discount if I was to sign today and a couple of free dealer accessories, left dealership, had some lunch went back and got what I wanted. Discount was around $10k off the bottom line.
