Hi, what do you recommend for the RRS TDV8? I heard that the manufacturer recommended oil (a ford std) isn't that good?

Yep you need an oil that meets the Ford WSS 913B spec and is 5w-30, if under warranty you dont have much choice on this, out of waranty you can use a much better 5w-30.

And yes, the Ford Spec 5w-30 is not that great but have a look at these approved ones here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-698-wss-m2c-913-b.aspx

Whats your thoughts on the adding 300ml of 2 Stroke oil to the diesel (not the engine oil) as per a thread on freel2.com as this provides lube that most modern diesel fuels now lack

No harm in it, known as UCL or upper cylinder lubrication. Usefull in V6 or V8 engines.

Use (road/track etc) - 80% on road 20% Off Road

Car is 1.5 years old so is still under warranty, and has servicing done by LR Main Dealer still.

Am particularly keen to understand whether I should use something different than factory spec oil for engine transmission oil etc as I use my car off road with a fair bit of low range work.

I don't do that many km's so car is serviced every 6 months, should I be changing engine / transmission and other oils more frequently than factory service schedule?

Can you also confirm the type of oil that should be used if wanting to do what you call "UCL"?

Just like to point out that me and Oilman are not the same person - I'm Oilman151 & if anybody wants an oil or gas well drilled in their back garden, then I'm your man....! If anyone wants advice on lubrication, ask Oilman...!

I have a TDv8 that is still in warranty so won't ask about it but I also have an offroad "toy" Defender 90 Tdi300
Make - Land Rover
Model - Defender Tdi300

Mods - EGR removed and blanked off and Cat removed
Use (road/track etc) - 20% on road 80% heavy offroad - it only does about 3000miles a year

Note: It is an amazing Tdi300 because it never uses or looses any oil between services despite my best efforts to break it 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
