Morning all

If all goes to plan I'll be picking up the new RRS TDV6 tomorrow - just wondering what run in techniques youve used, or whether youve used one at all ?

I know alot of new cars dont particularly need any engine run-in nowadays, but I still think a bit of TLC whilst the engine / gearbox / brakes / suspension all get to know each other is not a bad thing.

Well, i don't think engines need as much running in as previously either, but yeah i agree i always think a bit of TLC at the beggining, will help the car in later life. My RRS was an ex demo hence had already been 'ragged' in so mine was passed it...

However generally with new cars, i tend to take it easy up unti around 1000-1500 miles, and keep checking the oil in the first period, and top up when necessary. Some people have told me in the past to get the oil changed a few thousand miles in too, but i NEVER service my cars, i.e. pay dealer to do anything else then hand me the car in the first place, so tend to get rid of them before they need any payable maintenance!

1000 miles I think is sensible, keep an eye for oil and you should be just fine... just don't be ragging the nads off of it as you soon as you pick it up.

It takes a while to bed the breaks in, I would have the oil changed at 1000 miles. It doesnt cost much to do and show up any signs of problems with the engine well before any real damage happens. You will alos be fairly familar with the car at this point so it gives you an oppertunity to get any minor rattles fixed or questions answered.
The engine wont loosen up completely until about 6000 miles, but theres no need to drive with slippers on.. RRS TDV8 HSE - Hybrid TV - Sunroof - Adaptive Front Headlights - Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 system

Tonser - just keep an eye on the oil as the engine block absorbs oil and the level might get a bit low. Look forward to seeing the beast!  2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

For the diesel they use Castrol SLX LongTec synthetic 0W-30.

Very expensive. They advise check oil regularly as some customer beleive they can run their cars until the first service without adding any oil
It uses a wee bit every 400 miles and needs topping up
Otherwise the pain will not be covered by the warranty. Be warned  TDV6 - gone
