For clarity, it's the standard non-locking nuts that are failing on my RRS.

Had the same problem with mine at the weekend. The chrome covers are now so distorted they don't fit a standard socket anymore. I replaced all the lockers last year and they're fine but looks like a new set of standard nuts would be a good idea too. Group buy anyone ?? FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Did you put lockers back on or do you just run non-lockers on all nuts? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I put the lockers back on. They are only about 6 months old - bought from Duckworths, but I can see the merit of not using them given their propensity to split. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

With the fact that almost everything on an RRS seems to be fair game for your petty thief at the moment, I wouldn't risk not putting locking nuts back on. |

Do we believe it could be down to the use of the air /electric powered impact guns workshops seem to use for everything ! |

It could be that. Looking at the nuts, the shiny outer coat is just pressed on with the material being pressed around small corners near to the shoulder of the nut to secure it. I guess a combination of water getting in between the nut and coating causing some corrosion plus the use of aggressive power tools could cause the issue.

Do you think the off road work or water crossings have had any impact on the corrosion ? |

I suppose it might do but the rears get soaked whenever you drive in the wet anyway from the spray coming from the front tyres. I'd have thought salt from winter roads would be a bigger issue than running them through deep, salt-free water. It's a well known issue on the D3/4 site, it seems, and I'm sure many who are affected don't use their vehicles off road.

I would put money on power tools used by dealer - they also scratch alloys around nuts |
