L494 Purchase Advice - Which Engine?

Hi All,

Looking for some advise on choosing my next RRS. Trying to sum up the 3 engine/car choices.

2.0 SD4 - Cheaper which means I can get into a 2017+ interior. I presume good MPG but not expecting much more than the SDV6?

3.0 SDV6 - Probably leading the chase at the moment for a mix of MPG/performance. Possible crankshaft headache (albeit I think somewhat overplayed), Cambelt change gives additional expense.

4.4 SDV8 - Possibly the least headache, older car (2014 Model?), less MPG for a small performance gain.

What are the views of owners? I'm thinking a 2016/17 SDV6 is probably the sweetspot. Can anyone give an honest review of the SD4 and benefits? I don't think it will have enough performance but happy to be proved wrong!

Thanks!

3.0 with a remap! Awesome motor and still reasonable fuel return

i've just got a 4.4 and love it. Same price as the V6. Reasons were the crank issue in V6 weather over played or not it would always be on my mind. Plus V8 sounds better

MPG from what i have been told it similar. I just don't look Laughing

mine is a 2015 but a 16MY so has the older screen but the 2016 builds as they call them have a software update from what i know. Goes into comfort access automatically and have the wavy foot boot opener plus tax £340 per year (3.0 £275 on that year) think thats for all MY16 but on 15 or 65 plates.

4.4SDV8. A proper engine. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

3 years ago I was in the same position and my decision went along the lines of:

2ltr Hybrid - unproven technology, potential high cost of replacement batteries, potentially underpowered
5.2ltr V8 Petrol - more expensive to buy, poor mpg, would love one, especially the SVR, but couldn't justify
3.0ltr V6 Diesel - very nice engine, probably the best MPG, but as I keep my cars for a good number of years, I was worried about the potential crankshaft issue.
4.4ltr V8 Diesel - very nice engine, MPG not quite as good as the V6 but near enough, no issue with the crankshaft.

I bought a 4.4ltr V8 2017, I love it, I drove 150 miles last night cross country, it has masses of torque, it's quick, it can overtake, being the V8 it is AB spec so has all the toys and is comfortable, it does everything I want and the only car I aspire to is the SVR (although I would worry about how long I would keep my licence). MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)

Had the TDV6 in my L320 which was nice and I've got the SDV8 in my L405 which I love!

SDV8 gets my vote any day. Bags of torque and a effortless to drive. Kev
