RRS HSE 2005 is it too old to buy?

Hello Everybody

I am new to the forum and am looking to purchase my first RRS.

The forums provide brilliant advice and guidance, however, I am still unsure whether or not I should purchase an TDV6 2005 RRS as opposed to buying one made from 2007 onwards. There does not appear to be much difference until the TDV8 was introduced.

I have been to see a few RRS TDV6's but they did not appear to have been looked after.

I have seen a TDV6 HSE advertised for just over £17,000.

Spec is FLSH last service at 61K with timing belt change, Upgrades - Privacy glass (to rear of B post), Personal telephone integration system with bluetooth, DVD twin screen rear entertainment system, Electric sunroof, Bi-xenon adaptive headlights, Black Full leather interior, Four wheel-drive, Standard Features - Audio remote control, Automatic climate control, Clear view pack - Range Rover Sport, Cold climate pack - Range Rover Sport, Cruise control, DSC-Dynamic Stability Control, Electric folding door mirrors, Electric front+rear windows, Electrically adjustable front seats, Electronic traction control, Front park distance control, HI ICE pack - Range Rover Sport, Height adjustable driver's seat, Lumbar support, Memory pack - Range Rover Sport, Premium leather upholstery, Premium navigation system, Rear park distance control, Smoker's kit, Ultrasonic alarm. TOUCH SCREEN SAT NAV, FACTORY FITTED DVD SYSTEM, HARMON KARDON SOUND SYSTEM, FRONT & REAR PARK DISTANCE CONTROL, FRONT & REAR HEATED SEATS, 20" STORMER ALLOYS, 2 OWNERS, 2 KEYS, RUNNING BOARDS,, ELECTRIC GLASS SUNROOF, COBRA TRACKER FITTED.

Not sure if this is something worth looking at or if it is overpriced? Also, is it worth getting an RAC/AA inspection done before purchase?

I'm pretty sure comments like "Clear view pack", "Cold climate pack", "HI ICE Pack" are utter bullplop, unless anyone can correct me? Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Clear View Pack - Front Fog Lamps, Headlight Power Wash, Automatic Headlights, rain sensor, electrochromic review view mirror

HI ICE Pack - Harmon Kardon Audio system, passive sub-woofer, audio amplifier, remote audio control, in-dash 6-CD changer with eight speakers.

Cold Climate Pack - Heated Front Screen, heated front seats and heated washer jets.

All these packs were standard on HSE's at this time, so if its a real HSE then its not an "upgrade" 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

That'll explain it then, I've never heard of these packs before with all those bits being standard on a HSE. Don't forget the rear heated seats also. Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Hi GSC,

I'm still looking myself...good fun isn't it? Wink

In my humble opinion for a 2005 I think over £17k is £1500 - £2k over priced.

All the best,
Simon

I'm a newbie and another who is still searching Laughing ......17k does look quite steep for a 2005...You don't mention the mileage. It says last serviced at 61k.................but if it now has like 120k on the clock I would be concerned. Rolling with laughter

Going to have a look at one tomorrow, so fingers crossed this is 'the one'. Mr. Green

Thanks for all the replies.

Current mileage is 69K.

Spoke to the seller and he tells me the car is "fully loaded" with full Land Rover Service history.

No idea what I should be paying, so confusing!!

Good luck with your searching!!

Hi,

I've actually changed focus and looking for the right 4.2 SC instead of the diesel!!

£17k still on the steep side for a 2005...more £15k tops.

Hopefully seeing a couple tomorrow myself...

Good luck!

What you have to watch for on a MY07 and some early MY08's is that these fall in to the range that have suspect Oil pump casing's where the front timing belt tensioner breaks off from the casing and trashes the engine. There are quite a few posts on the subject on here and on Disco3 forum..

Flack Thumbs Up .

Cheers Simon, good luck with your search. The S/C sounds awesome!

Thanks for the info Flack, will probably stick with an earlier model RRS.

Peachy - what a beast, that's what I want!!

ADY, thanks for the link, was looking for mileage at 70k or less.

What are your thoughts on getting an AA/RAC inspection?

Its always worth getting an inspection done if your not buying from a main dealer. An independent land rover specialist might be a better choice for an inspection if you know a good one or one recommended by a forum member. A warranty is a must with a sport though. Thumbs Up Good luck with your search.

Cold Climate Pack - Heated Front Screen, heated front seats and heated washer jets

Does this mean that if you have the Heated Screen and seats you should have the heated washer jets?
haven't tested mine but Id be delighted if I have them. 2006 Supercharged

Having owned a 2005 and 2007 there are no real difference, I would just go for the one with the best colour combo, spec, miles and service history for your budget. Obviously if they are both very similar them I'd expect a reduction for year.

I think a decent spec, 60k mile 2005 in a good colour is 16-17k worth
