Is very sad for those involved but hopefully another reminder to all that giving yourself extra time and stopping distance in adverse weather is essential.

I have witness this sort of thing first hand, not a good situation to be in. I was lucky though, i didn't hit anything nor did anything hit me. |

The smart ones will say, "I was stationary, then got hit which pushed me in to the car in front" |

Obviously something happened around vehicle 1 or 2...but sometimes we just need to remember we are all human and its a tragic accident, rather than criminalising everyone.

I'm not so sure Mike. If someone caused it by doing something stupid like sending a text whilst driving, then they should be prosecuted. As for the rest, it looks, from the pictures and reports so far, that people were driving in thick fog and either they were driving too close together or too quickly for the conditions. If that is the case then it's not an accident - it's stupidity.

I would agree the first one or two, as i mentioned - just not all of them by default.

I have friends in this, and use the bridge every week... It's notorious for floating fog to just engulf it without warning.

130 cars X an average of 2.5 passengers? = 325 people, 90% (conservatively) will put in a whiplash/trauma/hurt feelings claim and get an average of £5000 a piece.......

Totally agree, I rear ended someone recently (totally my fault) and I was so surprised his claim was only for damage (£700), very refreshing. |

I reckon any vehicle fitted with head rests (so anything less than 10 years old at a guess) should invalidate a whiplash claim, unless the impact can be shown to be at an odd angle e.g. from the side. If you're rear ended the headrest is there to prevent whiplash after all. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

It would be interesting to see if any of the vehicles were being driven without insurance and / or by disqualified drivers. I bet there are a handful at least. Some people might have to spend a lot of time getting their claims sorted if they were hit by one of those. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
