Is very sad for those involved but hopefully another reminder to all that giving yourself extra time and stopping distance in adverse weather is essential.

I have witness this sort of thing first hand, not a good situation to be in. I was lucky though, i didn't hit anything nor did anything hit me. The police will prosecute all the drivers involved for driving without due care and attention unless they can prove they was not at fault.

Obviously something happened around vehicle 1 or 2...but sometimes we just need to remember we are all human and its a tragic accident, rather than criminalising everyone.

I couldn't see anyone has died at the moment, which must be a miracle in itself looking at the accident. Mike

I'm not so sure Mike. If someone caused it by doing something stupid like sending a text whilst driving, then they should be prosecuted. As for the rest, it looks, from the pictures and reports so far, that people were driving in thick fog and either they were driving too close together or too quickly for the conditions. If that is the case then it's not an accident - it's stupidity.

Leaving space and dropping your speed is what you do in bad conditions. Of course others might choose not to and they end up causing problems. This is where having a video recording in the vehicle would be useful because it would at least show you were trying to drive correctly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I would agree the first one or two, as i mentioned - just not all of them by default.

Yes if someone was texting or a lorry driver was watching BBC breakfast on TV - thats just mad...cant argue there - but we dont know Mike

I have friends in this, and use the bridge every week... It's notorious for floating fog to just engulf it without warning.

A friend of mine slowed the traffic in the slow lane with hazards on to assist, and cars just sped past as normal and all he could hear was them crashing in the fog then it lifted

A friends daughter is critical, broken ribs, spine, pelvis etc came out of coma an hour ago  Why?.. Because i can....

130 cars X an average of 2.5 passengers? = 325 people, 90% (conservatively) will put in a whiplash/trauma/hurt feelings claim and get an average of £5000 a piece.......

£1,625,000 out of the insurance pot before you even get round to damage etc!

Totally agree, I rear ended someone recently (totally my fault) and I was so surprised his claim was only for damage (£700), very refreshing.

I reckon any vehicle fitted with head rests (so anything less than 10 years old at a guess) should invalidate a whiplash claim, unless the impact can be shown to be at an odd angle e.g. from the side. If you're rear ended the headrest is there to prevent whiplash after all. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
