I'm new too this forum so I hope I have entered this right.

I bought this RRS tdv6 2.7 a few weeks ago its a 2007
Absolutely loverly machine 33,000 miles on the clock runs like a dream.
I was surprised that its not all that heavy on fuel I was expecting it to be a bit thirstier.
I am contemplating should i put side steps on her as it looks really well like this but they also look well with them on
I'm not really into ripping around every where those days have gone as I have had plenty of points in the past,
So I like just cruising now so I was thinking of getting a re-map done for the fuel efficient side, can anyone advise me on this, as I was reading about the black smoke problems,
When I went to test drive this car there was a engine management light on and FairPlay to the bloke he got it sorted and it was the right side EGR valve so they fixed it at the dealer.
Will a re-map effect this

Side-steps - definitely a must.

It just finishes the car off - and can keep other cars away from your bodywork somewhat.

But then, I have side-steps so am a little bit biased

I had them on a loaner and found them useless

I use access mode so felt they were too high - either stepped over them getting mud on jeans or stepping on them felt awkward

Had them on a D2 and loved them, ffrr loaner great and the new deployable are

Yes, I agree - I don't use them, they just look good. But they are helpful for my other half who is a little bit challenged in the stature department.

Side steps are very good, IF, you are a short ar*e.  In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Yes, they stop door denting in car parks.

TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Sidesteps are a must IMO.

Never used them but the wife and kids did.
However, In my opinion they are a must as they make the car look a lot better than without and coupled with rear tints

It does look unfinished to those of us who have side steps - mines lowered so they are useless but still look the dogs

I think it looks smart, but got too admit they look more meaty with them on

To me side steps are a negative accessory on an off road vehicle due to reduced ground clearance but without access mode they are handy for kids and elderly relatives

I have side steps on mine (they came with it when I bought it). I was going to take them off but have found them to be extremely useful. I'm not a short arse nor old. I don't use access height either (except when giving a lift to someone who is short or old) - I just step on to the step and sidestep in to the seat. They also help protect the side bolster of the seat when getting out - there's a tendancy otherwise to slide off the seat somewhat. The step is also useful if you park somewhere wet/muddy as it gives you a step in/out of the vehicle and over the mud/puddle - found that very useful on site on many occasions.

As for ground clearance, they don't protrude any lower than the main chassis rails. They do stick out, of course, but that then protects the door mouldings - now they are a stupid idea on a 4x4! I've found the steps provide a "sliders-lite" function off road. I'd love some real sliders with upper step surface but they're basically not available in the UK. Too many polishers, not enough off roaders, it appears to make them worth making/selling . The side trims on my steps are quite heavily scratched now but I'm not one to worry about such things. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
