Snow Chains

Now I’m back in the ‘north’ got a set of Wiessenfels Clack and Go Quattro snow chains earlier and finally had the chance to try them in anger last week.
They are very good. Easy to fit (after initial adjustment) in about one minute per wheel. And do exactly what they say on the box.
They look similar to the Land Rover accessory but (unsurprisingly) about half the price. Better value than winter tyres in my opinion.
If you’re tempted be sure to request 22mm collets to fit the wheel studs. They seem to be delivered with every size but.

Sorry I didn't take a photo. I'm not that smart with technology.
Here is where I got them

I'll try and do better next time they are fitted. I'm sure my grandson can handle the photo technology. I'm an old fart.
I should also say my wheels/tyres are 255/50R19.

So long as you're going to spend several weeks at a time driving on compacted snow and ice, yes. For typical British winters then "no" because one fits winter tyres from October to March rather than just for the day that it snows... Thumbs Up

Try driving on tarmac with chains for that amount of time and see what happens to your tyres and your wheel bearings Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Fair point RRSTDV8 but I don’t need them even that much. It’s only when I get stuck on the inclined sections of 'B' roads on the last mile or two to get home. The standard factory fit Pirelli's are usually OK. The chains can be fitted and removed in under one minute per tyre.

Hi Hugh,

Did you have locking wheel nuts and did those make any difference to the fittting?

Front chains only I'm assuming?

Front wheels only oxford-boy. As recomended by LR. One locking wheel nut per wheel as delivered. The snow chains attach to one nut. It can be any nut.
There is a video on the web site I linked earlier.

Well I would never have guessed I would have been still using my Wiessenfels Clack and Go Quattro snow chains at the beginning of April. I did not thing I would get my money's worth in one season. However I have washed and packed them away now.
I can recommend these chains. They are fixed on in minutes, I recon about 2 per side. I only needed them on the first and last couple of miles of the road which never gets treated. Hence they are perfect.
So is spring here? I hope so.
