From a resevre of £1600? Not bad.

I was thinking about going as I fancied a short dateless plate, 8 CCX caught my eye - especially with a reserve of £600! 2016 VW Golf GTD DSG

Panda

I never "get" the British private plate system so forgive me for being a thicko.

Unless your name is obviously Ken, why would you pay 2200 for an old B reg plate from 1984? Does the 166 have a significance for you?

Can someone also explain CA 11 AMS means? It just looks like a 2011 plate to me. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Thanks Ady, I am not used to substituting numbers to try to make letters but i see Callam in there now.

But, isn't here a rule on letter and number spacing?

Here plates are pre made (by those detained by the state) and when you order a private plate you can't dictate the spaces, it gets made according to the rules.

Plates here are disposable so when you remove an old plate to replace it with a new plate, the old plate gets trashed and the number can't be used again. Of course, private plates are transferable between vehicles, but you have to collect them from the Department of Transport and hand over your old plates before the person behind the counter gives you your new ones. It pays to take a battery drill and some new screws as the pre drilled holes don't always line up. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Jeez Panda, that takes some "imagination" to get BIGG KEN out of B 166 KEN. I guess I can see it if I screw up my eyeballs enough but wouldn't B 16 KEN be better and more correct?

I like the fact that private plates can hide the age of a car in the UK. Cars get re registered here if you don't pay the rego ( like road tax) so it's quite possible to see a 10 year old car with the latest number issue number plate. The plate is not indicative of a vehicle's age Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
