Hi I was wondering if any of you have heard of this before? I called a land rover dealer about a car they have for sale only to be told that they couldn't sell me a car as I don't live within a 50mile radius of there dealership!! When I pushed them for the reason for this I was told it was to do with there aftercare and as I live more than 50 mile away they couldn't offer this!!

That tells me that their aftercare isn't that good then. If its a L/R dealership then their aftercare can been taken to any L/R dealership assuming its a L/R warranty that they are offering you. Its not a pampercare warranty.

Can't see why it would make a difference as it would be down to you to take the car to them anyway.

They must be doing very well for themselves to turn away a potential customer

I said that they must be doing very well if they can afford to turn down £35000 worth of sale just because I didn't live close enough to there dealership!!! The salesman wouldn't even get into a discussion about it and just said it was company policy!!

Ask to speak to the dealer principle? I think you've had your plonker pulled there mate.

I thought that as well but I phoned back the following day and spoke to a different salesman only to be told the same thing!!

Imagine if they were all like that?
If you didn't live within a certain radius of a landrover dealership you can't buy one

Tim Of Scotland would of been stuffed then, he buys his motors from LPR near London.

Well I ordered my new RRS from Edenbridge which is about one hour away from where I live and they didn't refuse.. I did this as my local dealer was not offering what they were

Bought mine from a main dealer circa 250miles away, and they even delivered it!

I phoned the next nearest dealer to the one in question to see if they had heard anything like this before and they just said that they had never heard anything so rediculous!! oh well the search continues I'm not so sure I'd want to be buying a car off them anyway!!!

Sounds very strange indeed, and I can't imagine what they can possibly gain from it. Funnily enough selling cars isn't so easy that you have the luxury of choosing who buys from you!

I'd try another dealer; one that is grateful for your business.

I'd still phone the dealer principal and ask about this policy. Sounds odd. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'd stick a complaint in to LR.
