Well - did the gaydon trip today = Excellent. Thanks LR Very Happy

Early start 8.20am Sad well that's early for me on a Sunday morning. Quick blast down Gaydon and made it for 9.00.

I met Geoff who had escorted us round the factory Home of the Legend Tour - nice start to the day Very Happy Mind you it was at this point that I was aware that virtually all the guests were non LR apart from a couple of D3's RRS hse's and a Freelander.
" I must have slipped the net " I was told Confused
"Hows that then? " I asked Rolling Eyes

Apparently they were not intending to invite current S/C owners - but potential buyers only. So I politely told them what I thought Mad Having spent £60k I too would like to know what my car could/can do on tarmac as well as off road!!!!!!!!!!!

Nuf said.

Everyone at Gaydon agreed - but then they don't make the decisions.

1st up - Off Road. This was enjoyable, to be able to demonstrate to Mrs MDP for the first time what the car could do off road. Limited , but fun.

2nd up - Off site driving out and about on the surrounding roads of warwickshire. I gave this a miss , what was the point for me Sad , stopped at the track and had a few more nibbles ............ and then to our surprise along came a new Freelander. So had a good look round it and chat to the test driver. This car is so much better than the outgoing model by a mile, No....... by ten miles ! It did pee me off though to learn that ( and play with ) the new freelander had got a much better Bluetooth set up than in the RRS Crying or Very sad It is fully integrated and all features appear on the nice sat nav screen , inc. Contacts, call log etc. It was also a lot simpler/easier/quicker to pair your phone as well. All this is great - but its too late for us!
Also spent this dead time listening to the sound the RRS's made each time one went flying down the straight Very Happy Oh YES............. Oh YES [ in a Clarkson voice ]

3rd up - Test track - at last ..............

I took your advice and asked for Rob [ tall one ] and ..... Thumbs Up

After an initial chat & expressed dissapointment on my part - he set off to put things right. And boy he did just that. Through the peripheral test track stuff he went beserk Shocked literally Shocked Mrs MDP was very quiet in the back Rolling with laughter This was more like it...... if only we could all get to have go at doing this..... I want that job = PLEASE Smile

Then it was out on to the track itself - Floored it all the way off the clock Bow down also demonstrated the ability of the brembos to stop the misile before takeoff Wink

There is no way you could ever get to replicate what this car can do on the public highway without braking every law and a few bones on the way Wink

What a fantastic experience ......

As for the HST - NO , NO , NO , NO Exclamation

Interestingly - going back to the test driver of the new freelander who I chatted with earlier - said even when he was thrashing the new TDV8 around on test they still returned 27mpg Shocked from a car almost as quick as the S/C . He also said " remeber it has more torque as well "

Geoff said it was most strange - 'when 'this group' visited they spent the end of the evening swaping bits and pieces from their cars!' This was before he realised it was us! Very Happy 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Wales 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Java Black

Just got back after long weekend away tagged onto the Gaydon day on Friday. Agree with eveyone's comments so far. Really enjoyable day. The S/C is awsome-the noise, handling and kickdown are just phenomenal. Top marks to LR for the hospitality. We had a great day, got to see what the car could do when pushed without wearing out my own mechanicals or using my own petrol. Can't complain.
Good to meet a few of you. Hoping to attend a few more meets/get togethers in the future - work permitting.
Cheers all.
ANT Very Happy
PS not really impressed with HST bodykit except rear spoiler. Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order.

Agree Ant!

So out of the 800 or so guests we probably had 30 members of D3 & RRS attend - not bad. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Ref the HST kit

I was told it makes not a blind bit of difference to the handling of the RRS at all - it is all cosmetic .

Think I'll keep the pennies in my bank thanks Wink
