Engine System Fault

Big Cry
This has come up 5 times now the first two times I really didn’t pay any attention to it just thought it might be one of those RRS quarks and the fault goes when you restart the car.

however on my way down to Abersoch with a 26 foot caravan in tow it happened, got a Bong then the Engine System Fault on the screen. I was overtaking someone at the time on the A55 expressway loads of white smoke out the back, major power loss out the engine, managed to coast past the guy I had just overtaken as he disappeared in a cloud of smoke to the service station that was about 100 yards in front of me. Turned the engine off then back on and no fault engine revved ok and all the power was back.

on the way Back from Abersoch it happened twice the first time I turned the engine on and off and the fault went the second time I left it and drove the rest of the way home, no smoke this time. The V8 rouble you get out the exhaust was more pronounced and you could feel the rumble though the floor of the car could still tow ok 60MPH but just took a lot longer getting up to speed.

got home lifted the bonnet and a look under but could not see any loose cables no oil etc missing, turned the car off and on full power restored

2008 TDV8 3.6 40K on the clock

cheers

Steve

Had the same problem with our car (but not with the smoke) turned out to be a sticking turbo actuator rod.

Passed the engine system check OK and drove OK until you put a bit of load on the engine.

It would go into limp mode and sound like a WW2 bomber.

dealer was able to scoot some lube on it (can't remember which one it was) and its been OK since

Great thanks for the info just waiting for the LR dealer to call me back to get it sorted, I guess the smoke was the Turbo de-coking itself as I was accelerating hard at the time. We all know how to clean the Turbo out before it goes in for an MOT so your emissions are ok don’t we Whistle lol

thanks

The wife had the same issue in an old Freelander we had, it turned out the the turbo had popped due to the oil not getting to it.
