Can anyone list the pros & cons of removal the DPF?
And what costs are involved?

Never heard of anyone actually doing it TBH

Knowing how sensitive the RRS is to change... I'd expect it to flash up a long list of dash errors which would be more than a headache most could cope with  RRS gone

From what I've seen since I've joined this site I would say any number of warnings could be thrown up, be they Airbag, ACC, brake light, suspension....the list goes on  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Are you sure yours has a DPF? Not many UK spec TDV8's have, but most in mainland europe do have DPF.

PM me your chassis number, and I'll check if yours has a DPF. If it does, its easy to remove.  Feel the difference... Feel Alive!

Am picking it up on saturday so dont have it to hand at the moment , but its a 55 plate 2.7 tdv6
with regards to removal does the software have to be altered?

A UK spec 55 plate TDv6 will not have a DPF, even if it was a European personal import. IIRC the first RRS's to get DPF's as standard in the UK were 2010MY cars.
Is the DVLA not now clamping down on the removal of cats and DPF's on cars that were homologated with one that has since been removed. IIRC if you remove the cat from a car that has one as standard then at MOT time it's now a fail. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I am still not aware of anything regarding the UK MOT test, that requires the presence of a diesel catalyst, neither currently or pending. That's not to say that things will not change in future though.

For what its worth, I would leave your cat pipe on, as the gains seen upon removal are very small in terms of better response. This can be addressed easily with a good remap, which will sharpen up the engine response a lot anyway.

I'm pretty sure that DPF removal is against the law, so a VOSA inspection could see you in trouble. Feel the difference... Feel Alive!
