Ahead of painting my brembos I am looking at a safer way to lift the RRS and keep it lifted while I do the work.

I know the car is short of 3 ton but is a 3 tone trolley enough and what stands do I need.

Are you a member of Costco ? I've seen a lot of people talk very highly of the trolley jacks they sell
No idea on load or which stands you should get though.  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

3 tonnes would be ok, 4 tonnes better, 5 even better, but price goes up quickly!

one tonne will lift the RRS (wheels are rated at approx 900kg per corner) but to be on the safe side i would go for a 3 Tonne, then you can lift the entire front or rear rather than just one corner. if your wanting axle stands you will require 2 tonne.

I have the same sealey jack. Its a great job. Go to your local motor factors and you should get one for close to £100. Sealey tend to do deals where they throw in axle stands with jacks for a bundle price.

The sealey 3003CXQ is a rocket lift which means the lift arm rises in a couple of strokes ,ideal for 4x4's where there is a bigger ground clearance

Also, any ideas ref replacing the garbage scissor jack with a good bottle jack? My Defender had one which I should have retained...and yet the RRS comes with an Austin Allegro/Mini 850 scissor jack which is nearly incapable of lifting one side, even when the suspension is set to off road height..as per manual.

If you are just going to use it to do your Brembos why not just hire one for the weekend with some axle stands? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Why do I need a 3 tonne jack? Surely a car that weighs 2.6 tonnes does not weight more than a tonne at each corner. If so I dont need to spend £100 or more on a 3 tonne one. TDV8 HSE, Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm), Taylored sport exhaust system by Pipe Werx

You asked for advise on purchasing a suitable jack for a 4x4 and you got some good advise
£92 for that jack is a bit of a bargain TBH
Its not a cheap trolley jack this is the type that a garage would use
A 4x4 will need a larger jack to enable it to be useful on a vehicle with a greater ground clearance.
A 1T or a 2T jack might not even give you enough reach to remove the wheel.
You will be surprised just how high you need to go.
Yes you could hire but be aware it might cost you around £25 and you will have to put the dirty old hire jack in the back of your pride and joy!!!!!

I have THIS 3 ton one from Halfords. Cost about £75 with my trade card.

For occaisional use THIS 2.25 Ton 4x4 one is only £45 and you get a pair of 2 ton axle stands free TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

fair point! I need to get off the fence then and buy a decent one.
