Parking sensor problems

I've got a RRS 3.6 TDV8 2007 and last week the parking sensors stopped working which has turned out to be the front left inner sensor gone. The orange light is flashing and there is a high pitched tone. The research I've done shows that parking sensor failure is common and that the causes include broken wires behind the front bumper and/or high pressure jet washers from over-enthusiastic washing.

My Bosch technician mate has used his diagnostic equipment which revealed:

B1B4201 Distance sensor, left front, inside open circuit/earth short.
B1B5711 Front distance sensor Power supply.
B1B5811 Rear distance sensor Power supply.

Does anyone have any ideas where the wire is likely to have broken/shorted?

The next stage is to remove the bumper which is a bit of hassle.

Only time I've had problems with them was after the rear bumper was replaced as part of accident damage and it went straight back to the dealer for fixing. Knowing they are sensitive to water ingress means a power washer never goes near them and they have been 100% reliable ever since.

Do you know if they start working again when they've dried out or is it a case of once water has got in they've had it?
