Travelling down to Exeter a few days ago.......on the M5 at a reasonable speed, with about 200 miles behind me, the safety catches on my bonnet gave up the struggle and only the centre latch stopped me seeing it at very close range.

I know you have to be firm closing the bonnet, but mine had not been open for a few weeks and had done a couple of thousand miles without any excitement.

Scary stuff, I managed to get over to the hard shoulder, secure it - and have now driven about 500 miles without a recurrence.

My dealer has not had any other problems with the catch.......is it only me?

I remember reading a few reports when the RRS came out last year about this.

Have not heard anything on here though.

I am sure you are aware that unless you close the bonnet with a bit of force, it is possible for the catch to only engage on one side.

It happened to me and to Autocar (they were doing 140 at the time on a test track!) When my car went in for software upgrades recently the garage also appear to have adjusted the nearside catch which was the one not engaging properly.

Is it actually possible though that it will flip all the way up?

It happened to my father's D3 too.

In theory (or as I was assured by the dealer!) it would still have held on the safety catch in the middle, but it isn't nice to see one side of the bonnet fluttering on your shiney new car, even at low speed, I was doing about 50 at the time it happened to me 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
