I parked at a show yesterday and was listening to cd with ignition off between events.

Friend in car next to me asked me to turn volume up on a track as it was a particular favourite of his.

Imagine my surprise as unit would not increase above 20 and showed 'Low Power Mode Only' on info display.
Volume in cab was tolerable at that level but would not increase.

Looks like an environment thing !

I am guessing they did this to protect the car battery.

Here in UK they have introduced ASBOs (Anti Social Behaviour Orders) where playing your car stereo loudly can get you one of those

I also discovered the timeout when all items switch off after a few minutes when key is not turned to position one or above. Simple really just press on control and radio cd etc. starts up again. Definitely a battery saver that one.

Doesn't that only apply to owners of Corsa's, Clio's and Saxo's with bodykits and Lexus style rear lamps? Surely not Range Rover owners!  Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

my car does that. If you are listening to the radio w/o the engine running it will go in low power mode. It's just to conserve the battery. Nothing major or wrong w/ you car RRS S/C Special Edition, Vesuvius

Is there a way to disalbe the "low power mode" for the radio? While playing a dvd with the engine running (in park) I could not turn the volume past 20!! Annoying.

Are you certain your engine was running? You should be limited to low power mode (20 max volume level) only when the engine is not running. 

Well the "AVL" button was selected in the RSE menu.
After deselecting it I was able to turn the volume up
past 20 with the engine running.

The AVL option is only supposed to limit playback volume of headphone(s) connected to the RSES, so your children don't go deaf back there! It should not affect volume of the DVD source over the car speakers at all. Something doesn't seem right with your system. 

hmm, I don't know. When the engine is running and AVL is selected,
the volume will not go over 20 and displays "low power mode". Deselecting
AVL, the volume can be adjusted higher. Does yours do this?
Maybe this is what it is suppose to do, so the driver or passenger
can't blast the system volume while passengers have headsets on.

"This feature prevents volume being raised to a level which may damage
the hearing of the user, or may cause disturbance to the driver"
-RSE manual

I can't believe I actually went to the garage and checked, I'm such a dork... As I suspected, turning AVL on or off from the RSE menu makes no difference in playback volume over the car speakers, as long as the engine is running you can crank it up 'till your eardrums explode (and I mean it. I am listening to the DTS version of Porcupine Tree's "Deadwing", I love their music in any shape or form, but they're a whole new experience in 5.1 surround, cranked up to about 28.) The rear headphones' volume drops considerably with AVL on, though.

That's really strange. See... I was in the garage running the dvd
without engine running, got "low power mode". Then I came
back in read some post, and went back out and started the engine
and it was still doing "low power mode" then I deselected the AVL
and it was fine. Now I went back out after reading your last post
umberto, and started engine and it was fine and AVL made no
difference. So, oh well... sorry for the confusion.
