Scotland 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
Lower & Raise suspension

Hi folks,

I am fairly new to this excellent site and have just recently purchsed a 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.6 TDV8 HSE. I was wondering if anyone know's if it is possible to set or programme the car/key so that the suspension lowers when you lock the vehicle and raises and when you start. Whistle It may be a stupid question but thanks in advance for any info Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter

Don't think so but I would be careful lowering or raising the car with the park brake on as it shags the bushes on the suspension.

On my 2007 you can programme the Land Rover button on the key to set the suspension to access mode.

Will only work if the hazard lights are on tho!

I've been searching on this for a few days now and i thought it was only possible if hazard lights were on???

also been searching to see if the mirrors can be folded upon locking of the car??

On a 2010MY you can lower ans raise the car off the fob with the hazards on, apparently you get 3 or 4 up before it runs out of juice Mike

thought so... i read somewhere the hazard lights have to be on....... guess theres no way to get it to drop without when you lock the car?? (without having the hazards on)

Ok.. I will try..

Next time you lower the car, do it whilst stationary with the park brake on. After the car has settled, release the park brake and you will feel the car lurch a little. This is because the geometry changes when the suspension goes up and down and the position of the wheel changes or rotates a little as a result. If the park brake is left on, the wheel can't move and the change in the geometry is absorbed (a little) by the rubber suspension bushes. So.. My theory is that if this is done regularly, it will accelerate the wear rate on the bushes.. leading to premature wear.

It goes without saying that if you change the ride height with the park brake on and the leave the car for a long time, it will almost definitely deform the bushes and cause premature wear and knocking.

I would be very interested to hear from those who have had repeated problems with their suspension knocking as to whether they have been lowering and raising their car with the park brake on.. And similarly if people have had problems when they don't ever play with the ride height.....as I will have just wasted the past 10 mins writing this rubbish!

I should say that I'm not a mechanic.. These are just my opinions but they seem to make sense to me (and I've never had problems with my suspension bushes)

Thanks for that - I can see a certain amount of logic in your argument. Some of it may depend on whether the loading on the suspension bushes is neutral at normal ride height or even access height.

I've found that the changes in the wheel geometry at different ride heights affects the camber most - there's huge positive camber when going to extended and hyper-extended modes with the wheels really tucking in under the car - I can see more damage being done to the tyres as them scrub back to negative camber when lowering the car.

This is only enabled on the newer models, MY10 onward if I remember correctly. RRS TDV8 (loving it)
