I used to work for a large American multi-national medical company and we had 2 women reps and 2 nurses all of whom were petrolheads,we got some great stories from them when it was car changeover time dealing with car sales reps when they went into dealerships with their husbands to choose their next car.
It was amazing how many completely ignored the woman and talked directly to the man even though they had clearly stated they were looking at a car for themselves,usually Audi 80's and BMW 3 series.  MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

I had exactly same when i accompanied the wifey to buy a Merc at Derwent in Leeds, it was as if she was not there until i stopped the cheeky chap mid flow in his question of "do you like the driving position" to which my response was no but you better ask the wife as it is her purchase. I could have toasted a muffin on his face
