Driving in Germany (with Satnav)

I have to say that driving in Bavaria using the sat-nav properly is excellent.

The main road was closed (on the way to the dealer) and we had about half an hour to get there. Wife was reading the sat-nav and told me to go up one of "the little grey roads on the sat nav). I did this and ended up going along a grass lane, through a forest, across a field and exited via a farmers yard, passing a laughing farmer in his tractor (about a 12km off road experience.

I have discovered that the "little grey lines" on the sat nav, over here anyway, are sort of "country thoroughfares" that you have a right to use to cross a farmers land to get from one main road to another. The only catch is that you need to use low gear ratio, off-road height, and one of the special programmes. I say "catch" because when you go ploughing off into the woods, the Mercedes and BMW saloons that have been following you have to stop and turn around..............bloody excellent fun

Supertrotter. You will enjoy it. The local Bavarians are normally very laid back and if you play the "mad Englishman" they will love you even more.

Most of these roads that go through the wild end up in a small village and they will have a Kniepe (village pub) and a Biergarten!!!

Remember, I have a TDV6 not a S/C. Therefore I can AFFORD to visit both.
