I think its the cooling fan, mine does it sometimes even though the engine is cold, it sounds like a jet engine going no where fast, nothing to worry about though, do a search on here how to change brake pads its not too difficult and might save a few shilling or try an independent for a cheaper quote than the stealers,

if you have a fuel burning heater [fbh] then thats coming on until the coolant is up to temperature.. |

Thanks for that, i couldn't think how to describe it but a jet engine is pretty close.

Viscous fan is making that noise, then it goes to sleep till needed. |

Yep I think its the fan, mine does the same and all my previous Range Rovers have also made the same noise. Nothing to worry about. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
