Funnily enough I also love the idea of owning a RRS...

I'm considering a foray into ownership but I'd be coming in at the very low end of the Australian used market.

At my price point, the options are TDV6s with stratospheric kms (>100k) or 4.4 V8s with slightly less (<100k)

I'm keen on the better performance from the V8 but wary of the potential fuel costs. Having said that though, it would only be used for a sub 10km daily commute by the girlfriend. So maybe not a worry.

I guess my major concerns are the potential servicing costs for a car with this high a millage and what will soon require 'fixing'. My old man keeps making reference to the costs of the air suspension for example (although I've not read much about it being a problem).

LR dealers have advised that there is a big service prior to 100k km (and I'd check that this would have been done). The next service is apparently circa $500 (at least for the V8 ).

Are there any other known big services above the 100km mark? It seems that people are putting them on the market just prior to this km.

Anyone out there with RRSs with this kind of km and can comment on 'usual' items to be 'fixed'?

Recommend about the 80 - 96K mark that the transfer box, gearbox and diff oils are changed, none of the daft sealed for
life malarky. A good independent can do that for a reasonable cost.

Also see if there is a good local Independent who can service it, anything from 40-60% cheaper than the main dealers.

Air suspension, yes the compressors can go, mine cost (Allianz) 875 dollars for an after market replacement.. Allianz warrranty is also transferable, so perhaps find one with that ...

If you do buy a RRS I would suggest you use an indie and not an official dealer for servicing.

There is the hourly cost and the savings of course, but in my opinion I have found the all the local Melbourne dealers to not know as much, and are "not as thorough" as the indie's.

Ritters also sell used RRS.

As zilch says get the oil in the gearbox changed if it has not been (that's quite expensive); and make sure you get as full a warranty as you can.

If doing only 10k km's a year your car will require servicing every 6 months if you intend to follow the Land Rover Service Schedule.
