Advice on adding extra power.

So, Im thinking id like some extra power and a few people have kindly made several suggestions.

However, does any one know the implications warranty wise and what type of modification I should be looking at.

Any advice would be fantastic.

Thanks

Warranty problems abound! Basically if the dealer reports you have a remap to LR then you don't have any warranty. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hmm. Thats definitely Food for thought. I think if i am in way of voiding my warranty and knowing my past luck with RR I will not be putting myself in the firing line.

Thanks ! ! ! Smile

That is overdramatizing it somewhat Tim. They would have to prove that the claim is related to the modification, so if the turbo blows then yes they would refuse to pay out but if the sat nav stopped working you would have a valid claim.

Also it is very hard for a dealer to detect a remap so it's unlikely they would pick this up in the first place and also it's not in the dealers interest to report it to LR, they wouldn't be paid for any warranty claims! A friend of mine is group warranty manager for a chain of garages including Mercedes and Porsche and he said they would never report it to the manufacturer. Warranty claims is big business for them earning them lots of money and they also wouldn't want to upset the customer.

Lots of people have had their TDV6 2.7 remapped without any problems with the warranty. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

The terms of business and the law on vehicle warranties are quite clear.

ANY unauthorised change to the the car's spec. will void the warranty terms - just read the small print on the web site; any repairs that LR agree would be ex-gratia with o admission or acceptance of liability. EU Type Approval could also be broken meaning the cars illegal because of, say, emissions levels etc; stay out of Germany!!

Peformance enhancements along with other modifications, must be notified to your insurers otherwise they can refuse to pay out on an claim and your also driving illegally. i.e.without insurance.

If you decide not to tell a dealer or LR when you should or when asked it would be deception which if the mod was subsequently detected after or during a warranty repair activity this would leave you liable for the full cost of ALL the work done (diagnosis, parts shipment, parts at full price, labour, parking - believe me the list can really be extended) plus damages.

If you want to sleep peacefully wait until its out of the manufacturer's warranty - remember if you take out an after-market warranty it will have the same stipulations as the original LR terms and conditions i.e. the vehicle is as manufactured, serviced as Land Rover specifies and only fitted with approved spares and accessories etc.

Pain in the ass but tis the truth.

Well if you use something like BAS, you can reset the tune back to standard in about 2 minutes, before you take your car for service or warranty work.

Dealer will never know.

Actually you should always do that, otherwise if the dealer uploads a upgrade your BAS module will not work anymore.

Insurance might be another issue. '08 RRS TDV8
