Removing rear view mirror cowling?

As I live 3 hrs from closest RR Dealer, I am going to try and replace the ambient rain/auto light sensor located
in the plastic cowling that attaches to the rear view mirror/windshield. It is a $67 dollar part and driving 600 miles (two trips)
to dealer and back to have it done under warranty in snow conditions doesn't excite me. Has anyone ever remover the plastic cowling to access this? If so, how does it release? Thanks in advance! Mike mike murphy
