Anyone have better fitting instructions for side steps ?.

Hi all

I just bought a set of genuine LR side steps for my S/C and want to fit them myself. Having read the LR fitting instructions and never done this before id like to know if anyone has any better step by step instructions (with any pictures if possible) so that i can follow them when i start the job ?.

I have to cut the sills because the kit doesn't have pre cut ones and any words of advice, cuation or handy hintes would be very welcome so that i dont make a mess of this install Confused

I tried a search but didn't find anything.

Thanks

Carl

You sure they are genuine? The ones I bought had replacement mouldings with the cut outs in them so no cutting required. I don't have any other instructions but they are fairly easy to do Thumbs Up

Hi Carlos

Just posted this on the other related thread, but just in case its missed here it again.

I recently fitted side steps to my RRS, I found the instructions quite good if you take it slowly and use them as you remove and re-fit the parts. I tried to read and understand the instructions from the comfort of my living room and found them quite difficult to understand.

The only tricky bit is cutting the old trim for re-use, I beleive the kits used to come with the plastic sill covers pre cut but that has now ceased and you have to re-use the old trim.

You should have a template for both sides in the kit which you tape to the old trim with masking tape prior to cutting, don't forget to measure twice and cut once!! Just drill the corner intersections and cut with a hacksaw.

Good luck.

Jim

Hi, they are genuine LR but nearly new so dont have any template etc. Is the cutting line shown on the existing sills ?. I was advised by a LR parts manager that it is and LR will cut them rather than sell new ones now.

The steps should arrive tomorrow so i will have a look at the instructions when im at the car, hopefully that will help me make sense of the fitting.

Is there anything i need to take care with / ensure i dont get wrong ?. Any difficult areas ?.

Hi Carlos

My steps are genuine landrover, I have just found the fittting instructions but unfortunately I no longer have the templates, however on page 5 section 15 it gives all the exact dimensions of the templates and mounting positions, should be easy enough just make sure you don't confuse left with right and visa versa!

Looking at the instructions reminded me that I used a Jig-saw not a hacksaw!!

If you have any problems or questions PM me and I will try to help.

Jim
