I have used HDC a few times now on really steep slippy roads and it is a real godsend. Last year on the standard conti's i got stuck in the snow on a steep icy/snowy hill and slid backwards into another stuck car, but i only had about 3mm on them, this year the yokohamas with 6mm+ were deadly. 2014 Nara Bronze SDV6

I put the MT/Rs on the car before comng over to Scotland last week and I'm glad I did. I had no problems at all getting up to John o' Groats even with towing a trailer. There were a lot of abandoned cars on the verge and I past a couple of cars struggling on the hills, one of them you could see his zig zag tracks all the way up the hill! It did take a long time to get north but it was an easy trip in the RRS. Coming south was a diffrent matter it was not the car but the blizzard that was blowing that made it difficult at points I was looking out the side window to get a reference to where I was going, I left a day early just to be sure I could make it back to the ferry and I'm glad I did as the roads were closed the next morning. In all that snow I was using GGS mode and kept the 4x4 info display up and not once did I see the diffs lock, tonight going into Peer and on thier cobbled streets the rear diff lock was on and off like nobodys business, on the single track road back towards the house I had to pull over on to the verge which was 20cm deep with snow I gunned the car back onto the road, with 2 wheels on the road and 2 in the snow, the rear diff locked and I went forward like a rocket |

Andy, Are those Quatrac 3 SUV tyres any good? If so they could be a good compromise for all year use in the UK. And are they suitable for the weight of the RRS? Do they have 20"? Sorry loads of Q's. TDV6 - gone TDV8 - gone Audi Q5 3.0 Tdi Sline wef 6/11/10 |
