My RRS versus Disco 3

Well my car is at the dealers again been there since Friday night, I have borrowed my bosses D3 for the weekend. He took mine upto the dealers on the way to his home in the lakes. (he is in my freelander loaner Embarassed )

I have to say his Disco has 40000 miles on the clock and is a year old. My sport is 7 months old and has 11000 miles on the clock.
The disco drives like a new car, does not pull to one side, does not leave you with aching arms from constantly over correcting the steering and does not have the awfull and annoying rattle come knock from the front that mine does and not one passenger has asked me if there is a window open because of the wind noise from the passedger side.
In fact for the first time in weeks I have actually found pleasure in driving a Land Rover product.
Now this saddens me I really do like my sport but after driving the disco, I realise mine has problems that I have become accustomed to while driving it.
I hope it is ok when I collect it from the dealers where it is having a geommetery check and where they are also looking to isolate and cure the source of the knock that eminates from the front of the car. This does not happen all the time but has me angered every time it happens it is not something you can make happen but something that appears when it wants to.
While the Disco 3 is not to my taste nor needs, I really must say how it has impressed me this weekend, smooth, quiet, refined yet ready for anything.
My sport on the other hand is noisy (passenger side) rough and seems to have a mind of its own out on the road.
In conversation with friends this weekend I have acutally said my £47K should have given me more pleasure and rewards thean it has, rather than giving me something to moan about. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

I am absolutely delighted with my RRS. Its quiet, sure footed, doesnt pull on the steering & is Oh so better than the manual Disco3 "S " that I was lent when mine was in for the dead battery fix. Very Happy

No I am not thinking of a change but it is depressing to see it back at the dealers again and after driving an automatic HSE disco 3 and seeing how smooth and quiet it is has made me realise mine is not as it should be.
The Disco is wallowy looks like a transit connect at the back, but drives and feels 100% better than my sport. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Biggles, I had no idea you had such issues with your car, that' such a shame. I think it's clear from everyone's posts on this forum that LR have left some bugs in the Sport which we as owners are finding for them.

I think the geometry check will cure your pulling to the left, that's what mine did when I first got it, took me a week to realise as I was so wrapped up in just having the car at last. Mine was bad, but it was fixed by the 4 wheel alignment and has been fine since.

Regarding the wind noise you speak of, I have read somewhere that this can be caused by the black plastic trim on the outer of the A pillar, being not fixed properly, thus allowing air underneath it and making noise. Have you heard that one before?

Incidentally, did you notice any detrimental effect on the way your car drives when you swapped to the 20" wheels?

Hope it gets sorted: Keep us posted and keep the faith! Very Happy L319 D4 HSE

No the twentys went on just fine, the noise and steering wander seem to have come about over time, I thought that when the ball joint was found to be worn the other week that my problems were over with but it is not so.
Will wait and see how it is when I get it back. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Scotland 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Stornoway Grey

I am glad in some way to hear someone has heard about wind noise from drivers door, I thought I was being paranoid as on my previous RR the door trim was missing from the inside door frame so you could actually see the problem. On the RRS the doors are fitted well and no trim appears to be missing. Mine is going into the dealer on 13 March to get something done with the tailgate, I keep cracking my head, and with little thatch its B sore and also get HDC System Fault message when I start up, intermittent, so I think I will now mention the wind noise also. RRS HST Supercharged/ Stornoway Grey/Ivory/Piano Black/Sun Roof/Trackstar

Sorry to hear you are not having a the 'LR' experience. TBH the best 'new' car to buy is the 1st face lifted model, usually 2 years after launch of a new model/product. These cars have all those niggles/issues sorted, you 'guinea pigs' complain to LR about.

Yeah, I know, it would be too long to wait for one!! Wink
