Hi, MDP. I will let you know what happens when I get my car back on Monday. The dealer is superb, I go in there dressed in a rugby shirt, jeans and trainers but they treat me the same as there other customers driving out 350 thousand euro plus Rollers.
I used to work in aftersales at Audi/Vw so I will give you all some tips at how to get the best out of aftersales staff.
1. never be aggressive, swear or raise your voice (no matter what the problem) as they become less helpful
2. Bring in a big bag of donuts for the staff (always go down well)
3. get to know at least one of them by first name terms and chat about family and friends (you will be regarded as more of a friend and get a lot better service)
4. The more laid back you are, the more friendly and willing the service staff will become
5. Find common ground that interests you both, the service staff will feel less pressured and perform better if they know you are a "like-minded" person.
I have seen life from the other side of the desk and all of the above will help people to get the best out of the aftersales chap/lady.

So the fact that I called the service manager a Censored and was as much use as a lump of Censored wouldn't have helped? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I think you're generally right with your points, Canaryman, but there's a time and a place for when you should be friendly with service providing staff. The folks behind the desk do need to appreciate that they're dealing with paying customers. I've seen this happen so many times with client relationships that I've been involved in - get too friendly and when the sh*t hits the fan, it's difficult to resolve issues in the correct, professional manner. Schmoogle you are absolutely wrong. Customers come in and play the "I am the customer, you are therefore lower than me so you WILL do as I tell you.
Believe me, having spend a number of years in the military, having a friend next to you friend is better than than having a person next to you that you know is only co-operating because of your superior rank (this applies, particularly, under fire (extreme example)
Failing that, when a customer is getting particulary arrogant over a piece of loose fitting trim and implying that the service personnel are inferior and dim, let them know you have no mortgage, show them your screen saver which happens to be your house in an Austrian skiing resort and let them know you are buying a house with a swimming pool....its a great equaliser.
I have found that smiling, being friendly and having a little fun, despite any problems is far better in solving a problem them "do you know who I am!

Jayman. No that probably wont help your cause. A VW service manager, because he could not carry out a customers service due to the customer having no booking, got punched by the said customer. Unfortunately for the customer the sales manager saw it, the sales manager, being an ex 3-parachute brigade captain, got hold of the bloke and gave him a bloody good pasting. Police turned up and knew the bloke as he had assaulted a copper and had a reputation for being a "hard man". Strangely, the cctv was not working that day and no one saw anything. Customer didnt come back! Rolling with laughter

Now, as we have over 1.30metres of snow, I am off to dig my drive out and then go for a pootle about in the forest in the car....I will take the camera
have a good day and remember....donuts....never fails
