Hi a friend of mine is doing some colour codeing on my sport, went to look for the VIN plate for colour etc
and its not there i have looked in the handbook and seen that its supposed to be riveted to the front by the bonnet lock but there is nothing there, any one have the same??

This car was bought from land rover main dealer with warranty etc so i'd think it was ok?

VIN is just on the service book and bottom of the windscreen.

I wouldn't be too concerned especially if you bought it from a main dealer.

What year is it, there are only 2 if i remember 1 in the engine bay by the bonnet catch and 1 in windscreen

nov 2005... its the one in the engine bay that is missing!

It may have been in a bump and the part the VIN is riveted was replaced

also just because it was bought from a LR dealer doesn't mean it's safe, one of the freel2 members stolen FL2 was found for sale on a LR Forecourt

But I sure there will be somesort of explanation

its a big part to have been replaced if it has, and nothing on the hpi, so would have to of been payed for by previous owner.
if it has been found to have been repaired and vin not replaced and land rover have sold it to me without telling me is there anything i can do? e.g money back, replacement car etc??

Yeah fella, get the facts quick. I'm not proud of it but I sold a car to a dealer once that had been hit more times than Tina Turner. He never asked and I never said. Saw it advertised later as "a credit to previous owner" .............. oh how i chuckled to myself  It can't be that hard on diesel???

If it is legit error then dealer will have no problem ordering replacement from LR, CHPR ordered 1 for my old car and it was there within 2 weeks, but CHPR are the exception to the rule

I have spoken to the dealer this morning
and got the reply ' oh yeah it's just a sticker
I'll get one ordered for you'. Even though it clearly states rivet
He then sounded shocked that I said I actualy wanted to know why there wasn't one on there in the first place
(shock that I want to know what happened to a car I have bought, idiot!).
So I'm now awaiting a call from a sales manager (so he can spin me a line or two)

Did you do the HPI check yourself, or were you handed one 'they made earlier'.

Would doubt they would fraudulently doctor or produce HPI certs, but you never know

Interesting to see what happens... a friend of mine bought a FFRR from a main dealer and later found it to be cut and shut job. All got a bit messy from that point on. Police, lawyers, etc

Update.. Spoke to the manager and had a chat with him, he was as suprised as me told him that both numbers one on the windscreen and one under the car stamped into
the metal matched up, just nothing under the bonnet. He went on the system to check the history while I was on the phone and listed everything (services, warranty etc) but no repair, car was from stratstone Mayfair so they surely would have noticed this missing?

And I did a hpi check to be safe and all was clear and completly
matches the details of the car.

There seems to be a misnomer that HPI means never had an accident. All it means is that it has never had an accident that is uneconomic to repair. RRS's are expensive which means major £20k plus repairs arent unusual. Any motor trader or keen eyed car enthusiast can spot when a vehicle has been painted or repaired. Given that 30% of company vehicles and 20% of private vehicles have an incident every year there is practicaly no such thing as an unmolested used car.
Having said all that if the repair's done nicely, which if you didnt notice when you purchased the vehicle there's no reason to worry -------------------------------------------------
