Hello everyone.
A question about wheel fitment...
I have a 2005 TDV6 and I don't like the original 18" wheels - so, it is possible to fit OEM 20" 7 spoke wheels (Part no: RRC502040MCM with the black lug nuts)? The origianl 18" wheels have the silver lug nuts.

Yes of course.... all the OEM RRS wheels are interchangeable

Nope, you should be able to use the same nuts as far as I know - the offset is the same across all the RRS OEM wheels.

You have a 2005MY car Feiry, also check that you have the uprated steering rack as early cars not fitted with DR needed to have have an upgraded rack to take bigger than 19" wheels. Before you fit 20's check with a Dealer if you have a Damped Steering Rack fitted.

Some early cars, 2005 Model Year I think, didn't have them fitted. Without it fitted larger wheels can cause steering shimmy. Will you off no end.

The Dealer can check waht's fitted from your VIN.

If you have one fitted, change the wheels the car will look much better. I noticed the ride became slightly worse afterwards but not too much compared with the improved look. Watch out for kerbs though.

Problem here is that the Romaniac dealers are pretty incompetent ...to say the least!

You can visually check yourself if you have the steering damper fitted.

Search the forum for the thread as there are step by step photographs.

IIRC, you need to trun the steering to full lock to the right and look at the steering mechanism from the left hand side. It looks like a small metal bar with rubber bushes attached to the steering (again, IIRC!) Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

I would suggest in view of the pothole remark that you should stay with the 18" wheels as the sidewalls are higher and the tyre more resilient to deep holes than the low profile tyres fitted to 20". Maybe what you need are 18" or 19" fitted with MTRs!

Islider's comment is oh so true - I have never had kerbed wells on any car up to my present car and the wheels seem to be attracted to kerbstones like they are magnets.......................... had the wheels refurbished last winter and it looks like they will have to go back again this winter when I am running on my winter tyres. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

So, do I have to worry about 'spigot' sizes when swapping early and late wheels (as i noticed on ebay that people mention that late wheels need a spigot ring to fit early cars and the difference iss indicated by the black or silver wheel nuts)? it's just a blue oil burner

as Tim says, if potholes are that bad 20's could be a problem. Maybe you could compromise and go for the 19's.

They have a larger sidewall than the 20's, whilst design is not as good as 20's, they are much better than the 18's.

Also if you don't have a damped steering rack, the steering shimmy issue would be less or not noticeable.
