Dangerous acceleration and gearbox

Hello Chaps,

First a little introduction, currently have a 2005 TDV6 HSE, been a great car but currently has a problem that sounds quite common, no power until you hit 2,500 revs, which frankly if bloody dangerous. Ive seen on here the stuff about ECR's, Intercoolers and Turbo issues so its going to the mechanic first thing tomorrow, I will keep you updated!

Second question is more of a tricky one. It comes from the Mercedes G-Class stable. Basically, the gearbox on them, and other Mercs learns how you drive and adjusts itself accordingly, so if you like saving the juice it will change up earlier etc and if you like throwing it from a junction like a rugby ball it will do the opposite. There is a way you can reset this system, it will then analyse how you drive for the next 50 gear changes or so and set itself like that. What i was wondering is if there is such a system on the Range's. I know a lot of people talk about the slow get off at times so was wondering if this could be a slight fix for it.

Question me if i seem to have confused you all, it made sense in my head!

TDV6 from standstill is a tad slow and sometimes scary but it can be improved cosiderably by one of the Forum sponsers. Wink

Yep I think the gear box does work like that, but no idea how you get it to restart the process. TDV6 - gone

yeh i've been looking into the chip tuning, sponsor noted!!

the acceleration is definitely a fault though, its the whole black smoke 2.5k revs situation, otherwise car had been fantastic!

Sounds like the symptoms of a stuck/ sticking EGR Valve.

AFAIK to reset the gearbox ECU you have to disconnect the battery....................................... then you need to know things like radio codes and how to boot up all sorts of other things that reset when the electricity is turned off. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

as so no quirky shake of the key and flash of the lights scenario then? Censored dont think i want to mess with range rover electrics that already work

Hope it is the valves, a much cheaper option of repair.

The gearbox is certainly of the adaptive type, but again I'm not sure of the reset process short of doing what Tim says and disconnecting the battery. There probably is a more funky way, but it may be dealer-only.

Probably involves plugging a suitably programmed laptop into the diagnostic port. If you still have Land Rover Assist cover you could call them to come and look at it - the tech will have the right gear in his diagnostic laptop Whistle Whistle 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If you know anyone with Autologic or BBS Faultmate, they can reset the adaptive 'box in minutes. HOwever, that probably isnt at fault in your case.

hello,

had our TRUSTED mechanic come over today with the diagnostics, plugged in, 3 EGRS were coming up, he cleared them we took it for a short spin and then this is all that came up:

P0404
E.G.R control circuit range performance

so it does seem like its only an E.G.R problem and nothing worse so we are off to the stealers tomorrow (Woburn Green) to sort out the part and avoid any bull they may give.

any other recommendations?

went to our local dealer in Bourne End to find it closed down, so ended up at its relocation in Slough.

Parts in stock, £348 lighter! Saw the new RR though, looked quite good on the inside

Now to the mechanics!

quick update, mechanic phoned me yesterday and asked me to ask on here about how much of the under the bonnet components need to be removed to do this job? has anyone seen this job being done or has it always been done in the dealers?

Hmm... I'm not sure we should be advising someone who doesn't know what they're doing Confused

Are you going to let him get you to find out what he needs to do??? Shocked

I don't know how to replace the EGR valve (or really do anything like that) and that is why I take it to the dealer, even if it does cost me money.
