Hi - I've just bought an 08 2.7 V6 diesel 'XS' model with 13K on the clock. Love the car but there's a strange 'whining' noise coming from the engine whilst driving only (never when idol). The pitch varies as the accelerator is depressed and also when there's a gear change. It's kind of a 'whistle' or 'slurp' sound.

A mate of mine has an 07 model with the same engine - his doesn't make the noise....so I took mine back to land rover who told me it was 'normal' - apparently the engine management system was changed for the 08 model and this accounts for the whining sound on my 08??!!?

It's driving me mad - is it really 'normal' or is there a fault? Can you help??

You could try the guys on the Disco3 site as its the same engine in the Discovery and there are some technical guys on there who may know more.

Thanks for that gents. The car is running fine but it's a strange noise - distinct from the turbo whistle in my mind - time will tell I suppose.

i heard also something in the tdv6. i dont know what it could be. lr also said to me that is normal at the tdv6. thanks good i have an tdv8 and this was just an rental car  RRS TDV8 Modelyear 2009 with some modifications.
