Steering gets heavy and squeaks!

Hi everyone,

Can anyone shed some light on this for me??

when the car has been driven for a few miles and is warmed up the steering becomes heavy and there is the most annoying squeak coming from the steering column.

has anyone came across this??

Thanks Bobby,
Read the tsb in your gallery regarding the squeak in the steering... has anyone tried replacing the pas fluid and adding an additive?
Also will this cause the steering to become heavy when warmed up?

I would be grateful for any advice on draining/refilling the pas fluid as I dont want to give LR £90 per hour!

This was done at the end of warranty inspection by my dealer "under warranty" and to be honest the steering feels vague and just goddamed awful to tell you the truth, it fines tramlines in the road and any little ripple requires constant attention to keep the vehicle in a straight line. Marked change since the work was done Sad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I would have thought more of you would have had this problem??

Both main dealers here in northern ireland have told me adding an additive to the pas fluid is total nonsense!!
they seem to believe the squeaking is down to a dry bush but requires a total strip - down of the steering column!
££££££!!!
think id prefer to try an additive first lol
never seen lubrizol on shelves over here, would something like lucas or slick 50 maybe do the same??

still cant explain why steering would get heavy when engine heats up......

It's been reported a few times mate, but it's not one of the headline issues...

The TSB is LR advice, there for the dealership to follow. As Zilch said, get them to follow the TSB and do the work under warranty (if your car still is in warranty), if it works, it's cost you nothing and you can give your service dept a slap too Wink

On the service docket, it had it down as "Steering Rehydration" , but now the squeak is starting to come back after about 6 weeks Evil or Very Mad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
