Hi everyone, this is my first post here after fulfilling many years of ambition to be able to buy and afford a RR!

The good news is that yesterday I took delivery of a brand new RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE.

But the bad news... well on leaving the dealership I arrived to the motorway and at usual motorway speed the steering wheel started to virbrate as if the tyres were not correctly balanced. The dealership obviously tried to correct the balance and tracking; but then told me they still could not fix the problem.

They say that they think they need to replace the tyres, as sometimes if the car is left for a long period of time without being used and one of the tyres has a lower pressure, that after w hile, the tyre can misform, creating the problem on my car. So, I did not get the impression they were bull*****ing me, but at the same time, this explanation does sound a bit far-fetched for a new car of this value!

So I am waiting to collect the car again on Monday but I just wanted to ask if anyone has heard of or experienced something similar? And if I should be worrying or just relaxing and trusting that sometimes these things happen?

Welcome to RRS ownership. You were absolutely right to send the car straight back to the dealer. Do not acceot the car back until the problems are fixed.

I had the same on a brand new TDV6 here in Australia. The car went back to the dealer several times. They balanced the wheels, no cure. They fitted a new steering rack, no cure. They fitted a new rear differential and 5 new tyres (all within the first 8 months and 10,000km.

I never found out whether the rear diff and new tyres fixed the problem as I ended up negotiating a replacement car for a token payment under proposed government lemon laws. I was a nuisance and I think they wanted to get rid of me!!

RRS are great cars, just make sure everything is right before you accept the car. If they can't fix it, demand a replacement. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I had a problem with mine (2nd RRS Sept 08 ) this was under braking though. Back to dealer who confirmed problem and fitted new brake discs, new but warped. Yours sounds a little different though - vibration without braking??

Hi MAW, yeah, this happens when driving at normal motorway speed from 60mph/100kmh without braking - the steering wheel kind of jigs a tiny bit left and right rapidly.

To describe the "vibration": on my first car as a student (1983 Mk1 Golf), I fitted re-moulded/reconditioned tyres, and I remeber that at speeds over 60mph the steering wheel would vibrate in the same way - I guess cause re-moulds are not perfectly symmetrical... RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE - getting started, hopefully!

I picked up my TDV6HSE last Nov (08MY with 18K on the clock) and had the same issues with my car.

I've now had the usual bushes/ball joints etc replaced and a new steering rack........have also had the wheels rebalanced twice but I still had the vibration (especially bad at around 70 mph when you took your foot completely off the accelerator).

About a month ago the dealer finally replaced the front differential and the car now feels like it should (albeit with the bloody knocking noises still evident)....the vibration has gone and driving it is now an enjoyable experience!

I've had nothing but german cars for the past 8 years and confess to being disappointed with the RRS, given what a 'rugged' and solid vehicle it purports to be!

Having said that, aside from my old ZM Coupe there's not another car I've owned that has brought a bigger smile to my face everytime I get in it and drive somewhere.....! I'll most likely change to another one (TDV8 or new TDV6) at some stage next year.
