You would have to strip out the whole facia from the vehicle. As the tachometer is an integral part of the drivers binnacle. The binnacle is sub assembled into the facia before being fitted into the car.

Bananen, don't do it... The tach is integral part of the instrument cluster, which is really a computer. The instrument cluster (besides being a huge PITA to access physically: among other things you do need to remove the steering wheel) is coded with a copy of your unique car configuration file. The CCF contains all vitals for your car, including VIN, immobilization code, list of standard and optional equipment installed, market specific information, personalization settings, etc. A copy of your current CCF is also stored in the Central Junction Box and the Engine Control Module. The data is constantly transferred between these three modules via area network to insure integrity of all components and to always have a backup available in case one of these modules needs replacement. So, if you were to replace your instrument cluster with a new one (or a used one from a different car), nothing would work or start until the replacement cluster was reflashed via IDS to copy your CCF from CJB to cluster, so all files match and the components start talking to each other again. Your dealer - or a shop equipped with the required diagnostics equipment and software, not to mention an experienced technician - would definitely need to be involved. There is almost nothing "plug and play" in these cars anymore. |

BTW, if any geeks are interested in the content of the all-important CCF, BBS posted a decoded one from a random, Euro-spec TDV8 RRS on our forum not long ago: http://rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php...mp;start=3 - Lots of interesting stuff in that file. |
