Large Oil Leak - V8 supercharged - any known issues?

Just got back from London on train afer a couple of days to find flat battery in station car park!
Prob need a new battery as it has happened twice now!

Worse was yet to come - bad smell at roundabout of burning oil. Got home and left a large trail of oil across drive and dripping out fast at sump area.

Am out of warranty now so am paying to get someone in to fix - any known areas where a large oil leak might suddenly start from (I haven't hit anything)?

Thanks for your help.
Pete

Have you had a it serviced recently or done an oil change yourself? Have you checked the sump plug is still tight.
It's not something we have heard happen here with RRS, but IIRC member misey had his big rangey dump a load of oil a couple of years ago 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Apparently it is a design fault. Some tube has worn a hole through as it bounces about. Will find out the details tonight and publish it. I had read of a similar fault with the V8 RR (not Sport). Doesn't sound too expensive (I hope)

Thanks for showing an interest.

Sorry we weren't able to help, but at least you have found the cause. We don't have that meny members here with S/C's and those that have them don't seem to suffer too many mechanical woes. How old is the car B9, because you might find your dealer will replace the hose as a goodwill repair if the price isn't very much. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Dear all thanks for your advice - turned out to be a known design fault, although Land Rover won't admit to it!

The Oil Cooler pipe was chafing on the subframe until it turned into a hole! The mechnaic who fixed it wrapped the new pipe to avoid problem again.

Don't know if it is a Supercharger specific problem but maybe worth checking on vehicles over 3 years old (mine is a 55).

Cost me £238 to get fixed including new oil and anti freeze as lots of pipes had to be be removed. Part was only £23 from Land Rover.

Bottom of car coverered in oil but hopefully that won't drip to much (need a few rainy days). Anyone know how to get oil of block paving!

Also I re-charged battery overnight last night but the battery condition indicator is still black (not green). Anyone know if battery should last 3 years or more?

I had had quite a few problems over the 3 years for a £60k car, love car but am thinking of going German next time!

Thanks
Pete

Oil out of pavers - Halfords sell something called GUNK - it's for cleaning garage floors and you can buy it in up to 5lt canisters, usually works well if applied with a stiff brush IIRC the can is coloured red. There is also a cleaner called Muck Off - it's a biodegradable bike cleaner (not a cleaner for biodegradable bikes though Laughing ) and it's quite good too but much more expensive than Gunk.
Try googling them. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

"Gunk" great name for a product, tells you exactly what it's for... Laughing

Best name I have come across though is this, it was featured in a 4x4 program i saw, and actually worked starting a battered old Nissan Pootrol!
