How cool that must have been and in a classic Porsche too! There was just a great article in Christophorus on the 356A a few editions ago, and some very cool original pictures from Gmund....will have to bring my 997 to those roads one of these days, or maybe rent one.

The last trip thru that area last year from Venlo, Holland to Bolzano via Innsbruck and the Brenner pass was done in a Volvo station wagon...not quite the same feeling! PJPR

Once I was on the Nürburgring I was in a Porsche turbo with my boss when he tried to overtake the Ring-taxi M5. Well, the driver laughed and then drove seriously and not like the already truly fast taxi-style (I have been sitting in there, trust me, this is frightening! ), we saw the M5 a few minutes later when we arrived significantly later at the end of the round than her, her passenger was still on his knees trying to get up but he was still shaking so hard, he couldn't control his legs for minutes...
...and that was still way slower than what Walther Röhrl is doing on that track!  RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration

and that Ring Taxi M5 was driven by the famous lady driver I believe. PJPR

Yes, Sabine Schmitz, she's quite cute for a race driver.

But unfortunately she almost doesn't drive it anymore. They have now also a few blokes who drive it and you cannot choose which driver will take you round. I believe the guys are good in driving but they can not be near as good as Sabine who held the lap record before she had her driving license or any license for race driving!
And it was always great seeing guys who don't know her coming to the ring taxi and saying: "What, a woman, women can't drive, give me a real driver!" - And then look at their faces 9 minutes later after their round on the passenger's seat of the woman...  RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration
